For the record I've been riding road bikes since I was sixteen when my friends got me into it and I pulled my dad's old 84 bridgestone BS400 out of the attic. Those friends are now cat 1 and pro racers so you can fuck off with this "better than you" bullshit. I bought my first track bike a year ago and put about 3400 miles on that thing in about seven months on top of riding about 7,000 miles on the trek in the same time. Ugly single purpose bikes? Single purpose being RIDING the fucking thing? And i dont give a fuck about dudes shinguards. I just wonder if he wears him while he posts economic insights into a bike thread. And as for what I said to christo-f: honesty is the best policy. How is it astonishing people ride bikes but not into cycling? Have you ever been to a college campus or anywhere that the car is thought as actually unnecessary? As for taking things personally: Im eighth generation american, so theres no patriotism to china, but someone who calls all chinese unmotivated and lazy... and brings that shit into a bike thread... he's a fucking twat. He also works with Sram who do Avid, Rockshox and a few other brands. Hence he gets his hands on the pimpest shit. Nicolai is a German boutique brand with some serious engineering involved. They're one of the front runners in internal gearing and make roadies as well as MTB and BMX. When you buy a bike you can order direct to the factory and get it made to your own specs/requirements and also colour/paint scheme. I've never owned one because just a frame alone will set you back a few thousand and I aint rich enough for that. I don't work for them and my mate only deals with Aussie customers, so this is no free plug. In my opinion this stuff is the pinnacle of MTB porn + crazy arse German engineering. That could be a problem at my end though. I found jensons to be fast, reliable and cheap. There's an Australian MTB forum called farkin.net that has heaps of info for online stores. There are some decent enough mid-level MTB coming out of there; Giant, Iron Horse, Kona's I'm personally not a fan but some people ride them hard and they stand up well to it. I really don't understand why you don't like Chinese made bikes when they supply quality like this! My Beijing bomber rocks for riding home drunk on! Nah, in all seriousness, China is in mass production stage whilst it builds up. The next generation of producers are going to move from cheap, mass production to skilled, niche production. Then I think you'll see some quality stuff coming out of here. There is already a small trials, DH and XC scene starting here. That's going to grow along with the middle class. That's when I'll be buying the cheap priced better quality kit! Bring that shit on! For now, I stick with the US brands like Cannondale and Foes!
