Guest thedillz
Ciste - one of the nicest compliments I've ever gotten. Thank you. The Briazillian artist's work sounds interesting. Chuck Close was the one who inspired me the most to do faces this way. It takes me forever though to sit in place a make individual dots just to cover a small area. This is why I don't produce much work, because of time constraints and the scale of my work tends to be on the small side. Thanks again

ciste
Cinched, I cant remember his name, but yeah this guy did do alot of mediums. He did one where he built a plexiglass box and filled it with water, then used baby powder to coat the service of the water making it white, then took his screen and rubbed charcoal over the design onto the powder, creating the print on the service of the water. He set up a faucet above the painting that would drip every now and then, distorting the print. It was awesome. Sorry to waste this space without commenting on anybody's work. ERIZENO
THIS THREAD JUST BLEW THE FUCK UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great work all the way around. thedillz: my girlfriend was greatly influenced by chuck close too. good influence for the more grimey truth/reality in portraits. she has maily been a fine artist doing watercolors ... till she met me. she is learning spraypaint as a medium to do large scale portraits now. kinda like hex(LA) used to do. KEEP IT UP EVERYONE. THIS JUST LEAVES ME FEELING LIKE WALKING OUT OF WORK RIGHT NOW TO GO HOME AND GET MESSY WITH A CANVAS.

DorkstaR
these last few posts have all been really nice. i still dont see how thedillz can create such realistic portraits with just paint and ink. but nonetheless... its stunning.

Man, I'm kicking myself for not making it to that show when I was there... Dillz... Very nice. How big is that? Ciste... That link is damn cool. I wonder how stuff like that gets stored, or archived for that matter. Boxcars... The Mac impresses on a whole different level. There are times when I can't believe he's human... Guest thedillz
Joker - That last canvas is not very big. About 36in x 24in. Lately I've been working on nothing but wood. Not only does it give the overall piece a more vintage look (which I'm going for) but the link takes to the wood better than canvas. I actually do the drawings with ultra-fine point sharpies, so they tend to bleed. On the other hand, the wood is heavy as hell.
Guest thedillz
This is one of my more recent pieces. I apologize about the size of the photo. The host I use doesn’t allow anything larger. This is ink and a small amount of paint on wood. On the bottom left hand corner, that bark looking stuff is actually the outer-most layer of a hornets nest that I found. The texture is amazing. It is identical to paper and actually has the exact colors in it as the paint I used on the wood. http://photopile.com/photos/clonernc/auctions/78381.jpg'> Some details. http://photopile.com/photos/clonernc/auctions/58581.jpg'> http://photopile.com/photos/clonernc/auctions/58588.jpg'> http://photopile.com/photos/clonernc/auctions/58593.jpg'>
CinchedWaist
alright guys, after much stress and search i finally found him his name is Vik Muniz and he's originally from Sao Paulo Brazil. http://www.tenverses.org/article_img/VM_SMITH_DIE_72.jpg'> ok, so say that picture. You like, ok, he did it with charcoal or something. But its actually dust that he arranged on paper and then took a photo of. Most of his stuff is not actual work, but pictures of his work. these as well: http://www.tenverses.org/article_img/VM_JUDD_UNTITLED_1984_72.jpg'> http://www.tenverses.org/article_img/VM_JUDD_AND_SERRA_72.jpg'> Now this is where he amazes me. He did these portraits of children with regular household sugar...he had dark paper underneath and thenarranged the sugar to make the portrait. he then took a picture of the portrait and cleaned up the sugar. http://www.tenverses.org/article_img/VM_VALENTINA_72dpi.jpg'> and here he is doing a portrait of Pollack with chocolate syrup: http://www.tenverses.org/article_img/VM_NAMUTH_72.jpg'> I couldn't post alot of his stuff b/c his site is in flash. but if you go on his site check out the gallery...there's awesome stuff in there. his site And remember, when you look at pictures of his wire work (and most of his work, for that matter), thats not a drawing of a wire object, it is a wire object he sculpted and took a picture of. CinchedWaist
i like the hornets nest idea.... were you scared there were still some live ones left in there when you picked it up?
Guest thedillz
Cinched – when I took the nest apart, it had already gotten pretty cold out. I figured that they would have left the nest by this point. I also sprayed it with raid a few days before cutting through to make sure I wouldn’t get attacked. lol. When I opened it up I couldn’t believe what this thing looked like inside. I don’t have a clue as to how these nests are created but they’re a work of art. Joker
Dillz... are you showing this stuff somewhere or is this all just for fun? Amazing work, and it needs to be seen by all. Cinched... After you posted the Jackson Pollock image it hit me who you were talking about. I saw one of his pieces that was done in chocolate sauce and then framed. It was the "Last Supper". I saw it in a architecture magazine that was focusing on someone's home and their art collection. I was so amazed that it was done with chocolate sauce. Thanks for a great link! Here's one I finished a few weeks ago. I recently made a frame for it but haven't flicked the finished product...
