  1. Haha wtf this popped up on my internets: https://www.engadget.com/2016/08/31/viceland-desus-mero/
  2. Also, not sure how I stumbled back here (can't even remember why I stopped), but hi.
  3. Has Kettiecat been mentioned yet?

    Baggage thread.

Acronym 3a-5TS Cost me a bundle five years ago, but what with it being made by Bagjack and being generally bombproof I can see it lasting me a lot longer. Haven't had to buy another general bag since then and I probably use it every single day. Spend a bit more than you usually would, buy a good bag and you won't waste money having to replace shit that breaks. Unless you're the type that just likes buying new shit all the time, in which case whatever
  5. You guys seriously hook it up when it comes to fixing problems... I remember when you set up special international shipping for me when I ordered some stuff from Four The Hard Way way back when. Order placed, can't wait for it to arrive!
  6. I was gonna say the same thing... I would love to cop a shirt but it's quoting me UPS Worldwide Expedited to the UK - $148.46... There's gotta be another way!
  7. I have no idea how I've managed to accumulate 1000+ posts here, but also how I've not managed more considering how long it's been
  8. I think that it's a shame that handwriting standards have slipped so much...
  9. That Sever is possibly one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen... fire
  10. (Disclaimer: this is by no means the official word, just what I seem to remember hearing at some point) As far as I'm aware 12oz has run at a loss for most of its lifespan, being propped up at first by Raven personally, and then later subsidized by related projects (4THW, AKA etc.). My guess is that since the relaunch and resultant increase in advertising, the forums now break even, or, if they do make any money the vast majority of it will be ploughed straight back into improving content. From my understanding of what Raven does outside of 12oz he neither needs to nor wants to run the site as a money spinning venture simply to line his pockets. (Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken) The bottom line is that server space + bandwidth for a site of this size is not cheap and since most of you are too damn cheap to fork out $18/year (what does that translate to in the US? 6 beers at a bar? That's giving up half a beer a month...), what advertising revenue is generated can only maintain the current server capacity instead of increasing it in line with the growth of the site and/or adding more features. If one day the site can no longer be sustained I'm willing to bet that people who will complain the most and most vocally will be those who are currently complaining that they shouldn't have to support the site financially...
  11. Ayako Miyake, first female Ninja Warrior winner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDqY8dWsLWQ Ok. Maybe she's not that hot. But any girl that can tear through that course like she does gets an instant attractiveness boost in my book
  12. Don't know if anyone has linked to the girl who manages to win... I'd totally do her

I think it looks pretty fucking awesome in the penultimate picture, so... keep the rotation and make the linework crisp in the central part again? Good work man

I've seen an exhibition where sketchbooks were put into little glass cases with two handholes, so that might be a thought... otherwise a couple of hours spent with a scanner might work too. I would probably commit several large felonies to get my hands on those books, but there's definitely someone a lot more deserving who they'll end up with..
  15. Re: Moderator Schematics (Revisited) According to Glik's original blueprint, seeking's room has no doors... DEFENESTRATION
  16. Who remembers the old sans sheriff (something) vs. (something) threads? They need to start happening again...
  17. If you have an MBox you need Pro Tools LE. m-Powered is only for the M-Audio interfaces, and if I'm not mistaken mpowered Pro Tools won't even work with the MBox at all. The M is understandably misleading

Haha. I said they "make me -think- of", not "they are". Don't flatter yerself, he would have done it a lot better :p Anyway, keep it up. It's definitely good I'm somewhat depressed at the fact that abstract (especially abstract minimalism/abstract expressionism) is somewhat sidelined by most people as talentless or devoid of any kind of meaningful emotion. I'd rather stare at a Rothko, Newman or even a Mondrian over a lot of what supposed art "authorities" are currently shitting their pants over

seeking, don't know if you'll take this as a compliment or not (hopefully you will), but those pieces make me think of where Barnett Newman would have progressed to had he abandoned the comfort of masking tape
  20. Hoyes. Avril is the hottest thing on this planet Seriously people. Get your eyes tested. You're all so pussy-blinded. There's probably a girl within 50 yards of you RIGHT NOW who is hotter
  21. As far as I remember there is one obsolete version that can be used independent of hardware, but like I said - it's obsolete. And is full of limitations, as far as I know. The good thing about Digi insisting on their hardware is that in general, it's high quality (OK, like I said, new MBoxes and the M-Audio stuff is a joke - but just about usable, especially at "pro-sumer" level). For your friend, if he's building his own small studio, the odds are that as time goes on he'll be using something like an 002 purely as an interface - because there are better (but obviously more expensive) DA converters and preamps. Yeah, at the end of the day, the analog to digital conversion should never take place within a computer - so much electronic and magnetic noise from the internals, plus the odds are that since the E-MU is a computer soundcare, the XLRs aren't properly isolated so you're getting a bunch of crosstalk. Lastly, do the XLR inputs have a virtually controlled gain trim? Or do the mics have -10dB/-20dB pad? If you don't have either of those options, then you might have to make them operate at -10dBv instead of +4dBu (should be a switch to change that on the XLRs). It's not a great compromise, as your signal to noise ratio will shoot up, but it might tame the clipping. Maybe. Getting the gain structure right is generally the most annoyingly difficult thing to get right, especially when not working with stuff that's designed for high quality recording Hah, actually, it's just because I wasn't thinking.. On a Mac and a PC with similar specs, PT on the Mac slays the PC because Digi and Apple work very closely together on a lot and have done a shitload of optimisation, but, with a beefed up PC it should work fine. Just know that you'll have to have a separate HFS+ formatted drive to hold your audio and work on. And go for the quickest drive speed you possibly can! I completely forgot that Avid acquired Digidesign, which would explain it. The odds are it's a new mBox with the inferior converters and preamps, so if you were to buy it I would recommend flipping the whole package and using the profits to grab an older MBox, or, if you make enough, an 002R. As for the soundcard, the Mbox/002R would become the sound input and output for Pro Tools - system sound would still run through your computer soundcard. Egg cartons are total bullshit. As for the foam... heh, there's a lot more to acoustics than the eye can see. Getting the bubbles, reflective/absorbant characteristic and other acoustic properties of foam right costs a shitload, which means more cost for you. You can deaden a room with normal foam... but at the end of the day it's just deadening, you're not taking care of any of the frequency problems and mixing and tracking in a dead room will sound horrible. A little bit of acoustic foam can go a very long way though, so you shouldn't have to spend too much. However, unless you want to really go into the heavy mathematics, you'd probably be better off spending your money on drapes (or heavy curtain), the best diffuser you can afford, and finding someone who can tell you what to do with them. And some wood to build new walls, because you'll be wanting to get rid of as many parallel surfaces as you can afford. Acoustics is fucking crazy, you suddenly learn that you will never be able to get a pro-level mix in a home studio unless you mix on exactly the same equipment, in exactly the same room for decades, learn every intricacy and constantly check your mix on every single system you can. It really is crazy Of course, I realise that I'm talking about professional level stuff, because that's where I have work at. For your purposes you can get a very, very long way at home and get some great sounding stuff
