Smart Posted May 1, 2009 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Hey you guys and gals, it's May Day. We'll all meet in Kreuzburg for the riot later tonight but what are your plans? I'm not really celebrating until tomorrow when my Russian girl is having a party, apparently Ruskies come out of the woodwork for this one so lots of drunken gruff talk and ignoring the children is expected. I just went down and 'socialized' my dad's beer, it's "the people's beer" now (by 'people' I mean ME). He's in Cuba right now anyway so he won't notice. I remember in 1995 I rode thru Austin, Tejas on 5/1. Ate at Threadgill's restaurant, an experience I HIGHLY recommend. Janis Joplin used to pop in for a jam night where musicians ate free so there's lots of pictures of her on the walls. Lots of rock and roll history really. Apparent'y 'Poppa T' was a pretty big DJ in tejas around the time rock and roll was born but he finally had to come on back to Austin and run the farm. The point is, there's way more than just Janis, the place is a museum with kick ass food. Later that night I rolled out to Fredericksburg, too late to visit the Admiral Nimitz museum (sadly, they say it's one of the BEST museums in the country). I had another meal that couldn't be beat, wild duck etouffee, and when I came out of the restaurant I was surprised to see pretty much all of the town sitting in lawn chairs lining the main street. Apparently the town was founded by Germans and they still had a May Day parade. That part was awesome. The part where I ran out of beer was not, damn they roll up the streets at 9pm... May day is the worker's party day... "worker's party" like commies, not 'party day' because that's everyday... but yeah the facist and socialist battle it out on may 1st... then on may 5th we drink tequila. Fried okra on the side. With a glass of Kool Aid. Yep. Mostly everything in Germany was closed today. Except for my favorite kebab house, the ice cream shop, and the movies. That was my night.
