I still don't getthe whol "malt liquor" thing over there.

 

Do they call IPAs or IIPAs malt liquor? Is that Tecate malt liquor?

@Hua Guofangi really don’t get the malt liquor thing either. Just know they are cheap and potent. They are like the evil twin of Lite beer where light beer is cheap so you can drink it all day long and not get out of hand, and malt liquor is cheap so you can get shit drunk right now. 🥴 Have heard it called “bum schwill” before if there’s an aus word like schwill (is that German? Lol)

 

yea this one was a malt and is was pretty trash. Better than some but not good. Non of them really are though. Not enjoyable 
 

ipa and iipa don’t ever get called malt liquor they are well known enough to just be called ipa.

I’m getting domesticated and becoming a good American. Joined Costco today

 


 

this should be Beers of San Diego, not SoCal  All three breweries are within a few miles of each other

Yeah, the only thing I can tell that sets malt liquor apart from a IIPA is that the malt liquor has increased ABV due to adjuncts like dextrose being added where as the IIPA has higher ABV due to more malted barley in the mash (higher malt to water ratio, basically). OF course, IIPAs also have more hops but the defining characteristic that I throught set malt liquor apart was higher ABV, which, of course, a IIPAs have, in spades.

 

Never had malt liquor before. I'm curious but prepared for something that tastes like ass.

Just drink a tasty IIPA first and torch your taste buds.  Then you're all set for that malt liquor.

Just picked up some freshly poured cask beer. I haven’t had cask beer since they closed the pubs in march.

Also, what’s the deal with cask in America/ australia?
