VANCOUVER - A black Land Rover pulled up to the curb just south of Gotham's Steakhouse on the 600 block of Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver at around 10:15 p.m. Saturday night. Moments later, gunfire erupted and two men were dead.

"When police arrived on the scene they found two men in a black Land Rover had been shot dead," said Const. Tim Fanning of the Vancouver Police Department.

The men, a 38-year-old from Chilliwack and a 37-year-old Vancouverite, were likely known to police, said Const. Fanning. "If they are who we think they are," he said.

Two men are dead following what Police believe to be a targeted shooting in downtown Vancouver. They were in the black Land Rover (centre, facing) and had just pulled over when shots were fired. Constable Tim Fanning said police believe they were headed for dinner at Gotham's.

Const. Fanning would not provide any further description of the men or release their names pending notification of the men's next of kin. He did confirm that there were others in the Land Rover at the time.

While passers-by stopped to look and ask questions, the Land Rover sat at the curb, front doors open and headlights on, just steps away from its occupants' intended destination.

"We believe they were getting out of their vehicle to go to dinner at Gotham's," said Const. Fanning.

A shaken-looking woman wearing a tiara and nursing a bandaged thumb came staggering out of the taped-off scene with two male companions an hour later. She boarded the TransLink bus to join the other 15 witnesses who were being taken down to the police station to give statements.

Ben Moussadji, 24, said he witnessed the response to the attack, saying he saw about 15 police cars and a couple of ambulances arrive to cordon off the block of Seymour St. "This is the largest number of emergency vehicles I've ever seen in the area."

"I've never seen anything this massive. This is very uncommon for this area," he said.

One man was taken away from the scene in handcuffs on an apparently unrelated matter, and two police cruisers arriving on scene soon after the shooting crashed into each other, sending four officers to the hospital. Const. Fanning was not able to provide an update on their condition.

The Vancouver Police expect Seymour Street to remain closed off between Georgia and Dunsmuir until at least 2 a.m. while they continue collecting forensic evidence.

No suspects have been named or arrested.

the cops crash into eachother sending 4 coppers to hospital on top of the 2 dead guys
