question:

does your video card determin what resolutions you can have?

I'm thinking about getting a 16x9 monitor and I'm worried I'll

end up with a video card that doesnt support widescreen.

am I worried for nothing?

Q: If I purchase a 16x9 compatible PC monitor and a video card capable of running my TV signal on my computer, will I be seeing an HDTV picture on my computer when an HDTV signal is being broadcast or does HDTV have a separate decoder? If my computer monitor has a resolution of 1280 progressive and the ordinary HDTV monitor is 1180i, isn't my computer image superior to those expensive HDTV sets?

A: You need 3 things to watch HDTV on your PC: an HDTV signal (from an antenna, cable, or satellite), an HDTV tuner to receive the signal, and a display (monitor) capable of showing what the tuner is receiving.

Many (if not most) of today's computer monitors are capable of equal or greater than HDTV resolution, but you need the actual HDTV-compatible tuner and video card to receive the signal and send it to the monitor. You don't necessarily need a 16x9 monitor, though it's nice. A conventional 4x3 aspect ratio monitor will display 16x9 HD signal in the same way 4x3 HDTV-capable televisions do: with black bars above and below the widescreen picture.

So, assuming you receive HDTV broadcasts, adding an HDTV-capable tuner and video card to your PC should let you watch HDTV on your monitor. This could be a fairly inexpensive way to go HD if your PC's up to snuff. I'd still rather watch HDTV on a big screen TV, though the PC solution works in a pinch.

casek i was being retarded. i thought you could watch movies in daemon tools because it has a dvd play thing. for some reason i didn't realize that daemon tools was a virtual drive.

i changed the .mdf to .iso, mounted it in daemon tools and opened it with my dvd player software.

  • 2 weeks later...

don't know if raven is down with this or not, b/c of various reasons, but i am now using an anonymous proxy to browse 12oz.

the program is switchproxy for mozilla 1.0 and the proxy list can be found here http://www.steganos.com/?area=updateproxylist

geez, sorry i haven't been around in this thread (or any) very much recently), had alot going on over the holidaze. i'll be back in here more often, though.

oh, i'm also considering starting a 12oz radio thingy via shoutcast. if anyone is down to help out drop me a pm or an email. kinda thought it might be cool to broadcast different genres of music throughout the day. i'll try and get a little server setup going tonight or tomorrow.

Casek: For the proxy thing, you don't need a program...I just copied and pasted the URL for the proxy list into the "Automatic Proxy Configuration from URL:" box in the Firefox connection settings...

eh? to have it update form that list daily, you do, right? anyhow, switchproxy is dope. i can turn it on and off from the mozilla browser...neat-o.

I've been working on cracking Reason 2.5 for a while now, but nothing seems to be working. Anyone out there have the 3 cd images? If not, does anyone have any info on the thievery of Cubase or Live? Any input (other than "check Kazaa") would be greatly appreciated.

poes: if it only says" expired" why worry? as long as you can update it's all gravy.

right]

actually i tell u why i worry.

Everytime norton scans something it displays an urgent message box saying its expired and to renew now or ask again the next day. On the symantec help thing it said something about trying reinstalling it and i just found the cd so im a try that...
