mainter: your comp is gonna kick ass.

i've got a job tomorrow recovering data from an indian guys computer.

he just about threw it away b/c it crashed. he did get a new computer though.

perhaps my payment should be his old computer?

"how much is your data worth to you raj?.....can we really put a price on pictures? can we?"

i can almost visualize myself saying that to this guy.

Mainter... your computer does kick more ass than mine, but it doesn't kick more ass than the one that's in the

back room of my house... it's AMD64 4400+, one step below the fastest they have now...

And it's completely decked out, two panels, one of them wide, 450gigs of HD, 2gigs of RAM, HD TV

tuner card, Klipsch 5.1 speakers, sound blaster live 24bit...etcetefcet

ha!

that's like the indian guy. his computer

crashed and he didn't know what to do,

so he went out and bought a new one.

sad thing is: there are more like him. they

think computers are like broken vacuum cleaners.

they break, just throw it away and buy a new one that does work.... until it breaks.

she does have some rough looking knees....

but i wasn't noticing until you said something.

oh yeah that reminds me last thursday a customer came up to me and asked for a "card game."

* Me: "A card game? You mean, like poker?"

* Customer: "No, no. I just bought a steering wheel. I need a card game."

* Me: "You mean a 'car game,' like Nascar? So that you can use the steering wheel to drive?"

The customer looked at me like I was a complete idiot.

* Customer: "No. I have a Compaq computer. We tried to plug the steering wheel in, but it didn't work so we need a card game."

I was trying to figure out how a card game was going to help them out. Instead of getting a racing game, at least a card game would work. But it wouldn't be very easy to play a card game with a steering wheel.

Then I figured it out.

* Me: "You mean you need a 'game card,' to plug in your steering wheel?"

* Customer: "Oh, yeah. Maybe that's what it's called."

* Me: "They're in aisle 10 with the steering wheels."

Hey, what can I use to burn some television episodes I downloaded onto a DVD? I have Nero 6.0 but there is no option to make a video DVD, only a data and audio DVD. I have this program that came with my DVD drive called "INSTANT CD+DVD" but when I try to drag an mpg or avi into the project, it tells me that it's restricted and I need to contact the software vendor.

The best way to create a functional DVD from your multiple video files is to use a DVD authoring package. A variety of software companies specialize in DVD authoring, but some are better than others at delivering a great looking end product. For my own DVD authoring needs, I typically use Sonic MyDVD because the software easily handles importing video files, creating menus and the burning process without relying on any additional software. A second choice (also now owned by Sonic) is Roxio Easy Media Creator, which works almost as well as MyDVD. If you're looking for an app capable of doing some editing (to remove commercials from television shows before burning, for instance) Adobe Premiere Elements is one of the easiest tools I've found for taking a raw video file, editing the file, creating a DVD and burning the finished product. If you do all the authoring portion of the DVD project in another app, you can easily burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders created during the authoring process using any burning software with DVD support by simply burning the files as a data DVD and adding the two folders with contents to the project.

You can encode your video to prepare it for burning to DVD using the free trial of TMPG_enc but that's not a viable long term solution and you still need to invest in a second authoring app capable of creating menu structures

I just want to burn 3 episodes of lost to a DVD so I can put it in my DVD player and watch it on my television.

I have Nero but not the visionexpress thing. It'll burn the DVD but I need to convert the video files to DVD format first, so I grabbed AVI2DVD and I got an error trying to encode it. This is from the log file:

Casek, I think you'll know this-

I was dumb enough to install iTunes and it wrecked my music folders...how can I pull everything out of all the new folders and put it back to the way I like it?

I have a XP machine, BTW...I am seriously over fucking around, clicking all over the place.

I'll buy you a drink if you ever come out to CA...

i know nothing about these two programs.

personally, i wouldn't let itunes even have

a taste of my mp3 collection. i had a bad experience

with realplayer back in the day and haven't let a program

do anything to my collection since.

try the second tool. looks good.

buy me an asian.

haha. ok, maybe i'll buy the asian a drink and you hold the video camera?

yeah, the mp3 taggers are pretty much what you need because itunes re-tagged all of your mp3's when you let it in to your mp3 collection. i take it you ahve a pretty good sized collection?

mainter may have an idea for you. something i'm just not thinking of? dunno. i'll keep looking for something to correct itunes crap.
