Herbivore Posted June 21, 2005 Share Posted June 21, 2005 i was under the impression that all it would take to ruin a hard drive is for one little speck of dust to get inside it... as it would throw the arm off and break it, or something. if that's true, then i would imagine it would be very hard to open up the hard drive yourself without exposing it to any dust or other particles. i dunno, maybe i'm wrong. but anyway, it's actually my friend's father's hard drive that i was asking about. from what he tells me it just makes a single loud click when he turns the computer on, and it doesn't detect the drive at all. i assume from the clicking noise that it's a mechanical failure... but i'm not sure. what kind of prices are we talking about for data recovery? or is it possible to have it professionally repaired? casekonly Posted June 23, 2005 Share Posted June 23, 2005 kinda hard to explain,a ctually. ok, everyone knows linux runs smoothly, virtually no crashes, right? ok, then...macs operating system is built around a linux type kernel. that means it's nice and stable, uses its processing power and memory smoothly and efficiently. just like linux. windows is pretty inferior in those ways. windows is inferior. the big problem here is that while windows sucks pretty much. (windows 2000 pro is where it's at), but there are tons of applications for windows because bill gates is a complete dick. so, tons of applications versus a scattered few of the 'pro' type apps for macintosh. in these times, especially. but back in the day moreso. anyhow, you can see the conundrum? applications for artists and otherwise (back in the day, like i said, moreso than these days) vs. smooth operating system with a few applications for artists and otherwise. personally, i think it's just memories from back in the day circulating and eventually embedding themselves in culture. hope that explained things. Reseated the USB cable to the back of the system. 2. Reseated the USB cable to the back of the display. Determined if any other USB devices are connected to your system and work properly. Examples include: USB keyboard USB mouse USB printer USB camera USB external drive i dont know what else to check anyone got any ideas? Quoted post [/b] I got it 2 years ago and it used to work. I think I checked a digital output only option but I can't find that anywhere.
