OCEANSIDE – Bones found in a suitcase near railroad tracks are believed to be owned by a chiropractor who used them while attending school during the 1970s, police said Wednesday.
A railroad employee found the skeletal remains March 27 along the tracks at Oceanside Boulevard near Avenida del Oro, Oceanside police Sgt. Kelan Poorman said.
Detectives investigating the case learned the bones were to be part of an anatomical specimen the chiropractor had while in school, said Poorman, who did not say how the bones ended up near the tracks.
The information was given to the Medical Examiner's Office, which determined the bones were that of a man in his 20s or 30s. Police do not believe the man was killed during a crime, but the exact cause of death is undetermined, Poorman said.
Police believe the suitcase and the bones had been near the tracks for several years.
