  1. the problem lies in the fact that everythign has been done already. there's never going to be a band that will have the impact that black sabbath, led zeppelin, metallica, or, going back even further, the beatles had. sure, there's gonna be bands that take existing sounds and put their own spin on them to deliver something "original", but it's not gonna be original at all. it's jsut going to be a nother form of what's already there. if you're heavily into all kinds of music, not just certain genres, i challenge you to find something that sounds like nothing you've ever heard. at this point, there have been so many bands that have pushed so many envelopes in so many directions, any new(er) band will always make me think "this sounds kinda like Band X" or "that part sounded like Song Y". it's the nature of the beast. the sad thing is that there's still some potential (albeit a small amount) within hip hop to produce fresh sounds, but nobody will do it. or, as previously mentioned, it'll get so shit on from the get go, that it will never make it anywhere beyond the first few people that hear it and criticize it to death. "What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; there is nothing new under the sun." i can't believe i just quoted the bible.
  2. if they were smart, they'd remember that elephants are afraid of mice. common sense.
  3. the wifey and i were on our way home one night with a friend of ours, and there was a 5 or 6 car accident on the highway slowing shit down (about 1:30 am). first group of people we see is a family, mom, dad, and daughter (i'm guessing like 8 years old). the daughters got a blanket or towel or something and it's kinda bloody, but nothing huge. then we get up a little further and there's a pickup truck flipped upside down, and 3 hispanic dudes standing on the side of the road. one of them his holding his right arm with his left hand, and from like mide-forarm down, there was nothing... just looked like bloody spaghetti. i'm guessing that when the truck flipped he had his arm out the window or something and that shit got severed. it must have just happened because there was only like one cop there, no ambulances or anything. pretty intense.
  4. i'd like to think it's not gonna suck... but it will.
  5. fuck that band. fucking one trick pony.
  6. Re: AKIRA- BEST MOViE NEVER? movie sucks. end of story.
  7. i'm gonna pick this up for sure as soon as i have money. stuff that's written like this is my favorite stuff to read.
  8. wish isn't awful, it's just kind of a weak cure record. but man, "trust" and "a letter to elise" are doooope songs. the band has never put out a bad record, just some aren't as good as others.
  9. disintegration. best cure album, hands down. pornography is a close second.
  10. the brewers have possibly the best logo on baseball. shit's clever.
  11. that shot of the train in new york is fucking dope.
  12. ^ oh absolutely. i'm not gonna let the fact that i'm a Sox fan keep me from saying that Torre is a great manager, and the Yankees are a great ball club. they've, obviously, got some of the top players in the game, and have consistently shown that. something happened within the last few years though, and those top players seem to be just kinda freezing up in the post season. i just read a thing on mlb.com saying he could easily pull 30mil as a free agent. what remains to be seen is if that extra 3mil a year is gonna lure him away from NY, because honestly, when you're already making 27mil, the extra 3 just doesn't seem like a huge pull to me. but again, i think his decision will be heavily swayed by Torre getting the can. dude's a good player, and will continue to do well wherever he goes, that's for sure.
  13. yeah exactly. and i think a lot of the Yankees players decisions are gonna be heavily influenced by what happens with Torre, A-Rod has already said that. add to that the fact that he could stand to make a little chunk more as a free agent, and his future there is looking a little shaky. i think that team is gonna look a lot different next season, and i'm not sure how well that's gonna work out for them. there's talk of Mattingly taking Torre's spot, which i don't think would be the best move on their part, but time will tell.
  14. eerily reminiscent of patrick melcher's part in the black label 'blackout' video where he almost gets hit by a bus... somehow i think that would have been way worse.
  15. ^ truth. i generally agree, but i'm not so sure about A-Rod. i wouldn't be surprised at all to see him go. by the same token, i wouldn't be surprised if he stayed, i just don't think it's definite either way.
  16. i knew a dude once whose girl thought she was pregnant because she blew him... she was like 21 at the time, i think. sooo stupid.
  17. dude your skin's probably looking like you're about 103 right now.
  18. have you seen that ian curtis wool sweater that was out last winter? i forget what company did it, but i wanted it so bad. edit: mishka put it out, and here it is:
  19. good job, tribe. see you in a few days in the ALCS.
  20. ok first, i live near DC. i grew up in the DC scene. straight edge kids weren't like that around here. maybe a very small minority, but we were a little more concerned with the skinheads. that pumping iron shit didn't fly, listen to "go back to the gym" by battery. and seriously, to say i'm not a "real edger" because i hang out at bars with my friends is fucking DUMB. straight up. you're making yourself sound like an idiot. i promise you, with or without big X's tattooed on my hands, i'm one of the "real"est straight edge kids you'll ever come across. it has nothing to do with hating anyone else, it has nothing to do with where i go and/or who i hang out with. it has everything to do with my personal choice, my personal beliefs, and my personal decisions. if i want to go to a dive bar in philly because my boy works there, i'll go, wearing a straight edge shirt. if i want to go hang out with some friends that are in town for just the weekend at a bar in DC, i'll go, and still be straight edge. if some of my other friends in philly like to hang out at a particular bar on occasion, i'll hang out there with them. the food is good, and they've got a sick jukebox. i'm a social person. does that contradict my being straight edge? not at all. does me having x's around my screen name make me "mall punk"? not at all. i was here when there was only one place in DC to buy punk/hardcore shit, and even still you had to mail order shit most of the time. i got shit because of the way i looked and the music i lsitened to. i owned a record store, i put on shows, i did a zine. so tell me how the fuck a screen name dictates how "punk" i am. and tell me how the fuck hanging out with my friends at a bar makes me any less straight edge. end of fucking discussion, for real. you got something else to say to me or anyone else, we'll do it through PM's. i started this to find out about Louisville, not to defend who i am to some faceless name on the internet. so on the Lousiville note, can anyone fill me in on this "Gallery Hop" that takes place every month? is it worth checking out?
  21. ^ doing good so far, up 4-1 in the 3rd. don't fuck it up!
  22. the vast majority of the old DC heads are hipsters/borderling hipsters now, it's pretty depressing. not that any of this has to do with Louisville. back on track, god damnit :)
