Oi Vei Posted August 15, 2005 Share Posted August 15, 2005 to say that anyone is "killing it" in reference to the new york subway system is quite an exaggeration. why dont a lot of new york writers hit trains these days? because among other things, theres heightened transit security in response to the london underground bombings, the vandal squad believe it or not constantly monitor yards and layups, its a waste of paint because theres a 75% chance that the painted train wont even make it out of the yard (most stuff that gets done doesnt run obviously), and theres higher fines and longer jail time than their used to be. its not exactly what you might call a "win-win" situation. why do foreigners do it more often? because theres more in it for them a) because its the mecca of graffiti and for these euro writers its like making a pilgrimage and b) because theyre not US citizens and thus may get off easier. overall, theres less at stake for them. if new york writers were to do trains on a more consistent basis using a quantity vs. quality approach, then inevitably, more trains would go into service. instead of doing two pieces on 2 separate cars in a full yard, bomb as many trains as you can if you want them to actually run. and that is my 2 fucking cents.
