NightmareOnElmStreet
What is it with job site dumpsters and awesome hand lettering?? It’s a secondary notice for me after all these years on jobs. And long before i even realized how rad hand painted signage was i only ever really noticed it on auto and big 18 wheelers. Not sure if grocery store and liquor stores count since i swear they’re all part of the same printed font crew. Clearly there are flaws here but its just straight up fascinating how much of this shit stands out to me these days. morton
I am guessing that it is a regional thing, possibly the product of a relationship between one shop and the businesses that rent the dumpsters. I stopped by this guys https://www.dunnautographics.com/history shop one time and chatted him up for a while when I was thinking about getting a truck painted, he said that all his truck business gets the vinyl, except for construction hauling companies that prefer the old hand lettering. The durability of paint might play a role also, but at least by memory I have not noticed hand painted dumpsters in the general case. NightmareOnElmStreet
Those old construction company trucks STAY with the hands. I love that shit. If i had gotten the older ford i wanted to get for my painting truck i would have had it painted BY SOMEONE THAT LURKS ON HERE, but they was too cool guy. morton
I am on the lookout now, pretty good graphic here but on a vinyl sticker, already starting to peal in bot right corner. First fresh cut grass smell of the year though (off topic).
Alex44
Hi!I advise you to watch very interesting videos, where a talented artist makes very beautiful and realistic drawings. The realism is off the scale. morton
We have really lost our way visually when someone can justify putting up such a shit sign, I appreciate that we no longer teach cursive in our schools but one would think most people have a general idea that the letters are supposed to line up. The fourteen year old girl down the street put your shit to shame with their craft stand. Some stencil work, not sure how they did it. Old style, maybe actually old. These are from a weekend walk in Chincoteague, a touristic village on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. There are often good hand painted signs in touristic places, they seem to push back a little against the bullshit sameness that has dominated so much of our culture. I had some local food at quality hole in the wall type joints and it just makes me so sad that our countries foodways have been and are being lost to fast food chains. We made a choice to subsidize big ag and big business and now we eat shit just like we look at shit signs. 4

morton
I saw a few here and there. I hope to return, not for the pony run but maybe. I took a walk in the refuge where the wild pony's hang; pretty place thick with birds and some tre serio birders with cameras like cannons and full tactical gear. The inland part of the area is all chicken farms which makes you wonder if the birders go to Royal Farms for some gas station fried chicked in the middle of a corn field adjacent to a shed where there are like 300,000 chickens. I am thinking my Eastern Shore next trip will be to Crisfield and that from there I can check out Smith Island and Tangier. Either that or something within striking distance of Annapolis, the area is pretty rich with places to check out which makes going back to Chincoteague less probable.

morton
How far we done fell. Something finer, not the penciled numbers also. Same building as last, has a nice, not professional but talented look to it. Spray paint, reasonably clean really. Not sure if this was vinyl or something else, some new tech. Not the sort of thing I could capture but the faded mural had a nice effect, like blown glass or something. Little bit of the old peaking through, before development removes it like a dentist chasing plaque. All from my walk in Dallas this morning. 3

morton
I do not know, something like that, furnaces. Was not looking at it then, Google maps has a view as good as my picture but does not make clear. Might be a worthwhile research exercise to find out. Long lasting. not so much.
