Did you see the New Birth record? I don't get excited about funk much these days but there's something about that track...

I've got "got to get me a knutt" on a compilation, so I wasn't looking for New Birth. To be honest, that's the only song I really know by them.

i would automatically snap that up regardless of price at any record store based solely on the cover art. haha. the five years ive been collecting, this approach has been surprisingly effective when im not familiar with an artist.

That's how I shop as well. With stuff I don't know, the cover art usually catches my eye. If it's not that, it's names in the band or something like that. I'll also listen to anything that has "soul" or "funk" in any of the titles. This is a crap shoot, but it helps. When I dropped the needle on that Kenyatta album, I just knew from the first four bars that it was going to be good.

Oh --that Quinn Harris album is good, as is the Bobby Knight one. Both were picked up due to "soul" being in the titles. The Bobby Knight one was more so because of the band photo.

I had that Robin Kenyatta album...it was all right, not really what I'm into. I used to see copies of it pretty often, it shouldn't be too hard to find.
