casekonly
ok, now i have a question. i've had a wireless router (wrt54g) for a couple of months now, also got a wireless card for my desktop and laptop (all the shit is linksys) but i noticed that every 3-5 days, my router will crash out. what i've been doing is setting it back up again because i know nothing about the whole router/wireless thing...well, i know, just not alot. anyhow, wondering what i can do to prevent this, if there's somethign else i should do besides set it up again...it usually tells me it can't find my cable modem when it crashes out really hard...dumb shit. thanks rev. casek

Mainter
I was bored tonight so i did some research for you casek :dazed: :dozey: 1. HARD RESET- Reset the device to factory default, this may need to reconfigure the routers settings again. 1] Press and hold the reset button for 30 sec., after that 2] Unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for another 30 sec. 3] Then, plug back the power keep holding down the reset button for 30sec., after that 4] Release the reset button. 2. SETTING MTU VALUE IN THE ROUTER Launch your Internet Explorer 5 or later version or Netscape Navigator 4 or later version. On the Address, Search or URL, type: http://192.168.1.1, then hit Enter/Return. A login screen will appear. Type admin for the password and leave the username blank or empty then hit “OK”. Note: If it doesn’t take admin as the password you might have change it when you have run the RUN ME FIRST CD that came with the router so try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password I regret to tell you but you have to reset the router and reconfigure it again. Next time remember the password to avoid unnecessary reset and reconfiguration. Note: Setting MTU value in the router varies depending on the model number and firmware version of your Linksys Router. Cisco Interface (If your Setup page has a Cisco Logo) - Under the Setup Page: set the MTU size to 1472 > Save Settings > Continue If the same problem, decrease the size by 10 until better performance is achieved, else if the performance gets worse, stop decreasing the size and set the size back where it works better. Regular Linksys Router Interface (If your Setup page has a no Cisco Logo) - Click on the Advance TAB > Under Filters Enable MTU, set size to 1472 > Apply > Continue or wait for it to come back. If the same problem, decrease the size by 10 If the same problem, decrease the size by 10 better performance is achieved, else if the performance gets worse, stop decreasing the size and set the size back where it works better. :dazed: :dozey: Regular Linksys Router Interface (WRT54G) (If your Setup page has a no Cisco Logo) - Click on the System TAB > Enable MTU, set size to 1472 > Apply > Continue or wait for it to come back. UPGRADING THE FIRMWARE OF THE ROUTER Note: Upgrading the firmware of the router varies depending on the model number and firmware version of your Linksys Router. Download the firmware of the router from - http://www.linksys.com/download Cisco Interface (If your Setup page has a Cisco Logo) Access the router’s Web Base Utility > Administration TAB > Click on Firmware Upgrade > Click on Browse > Browse or look for the *.bin file > click on OPEN > Hit UPGRADE button. (Just wait for the message “You have successfully upgraded the firmware”) > Click on the Continue. Regular Linksys Router Interface (If your Setup page has a no Cisco Logo) Double click on TFTP. Enter the following information: Server: 192.168.1.1 Password: admin File: > Click on the button that has 3 dots. It will give you a window that says Open. Beside “Look In:” set the location where you have unzipped the firmware. After that highlight *.bin file then hit open. It will bring you back to the firmware upgrade window. Click on upgrade. Just wait for the confirmation that you have upgraded the router successfully. Regular Linksys Router Interface (WRT54G) (If your Setup page has a no Cisco Logo) Access the router’s Web Base Utility > System TAB > Click on Firmware Upgrade > Click on Browse > Browse or look for the *.bin file > click on OPEN > Hit UPGRADE button. SpyD
Aight peep game. I got an HP m1050y media center If you know anything about these things is that it's fuggin cramped inside. no room for expansion, plus I've been overheating like everytime i play a game on that bitch and now i wanna migrate as much shit as possible to a bigger, more spacey case. I know I'll need a new mobo for more slots and stuff but can someone find me a fairly cheap atx board with a pci-x slot and sata connectivity? I found This Site about the mobo. i just wanna make sure I can use my processor , hd and video card on the new board. as a bonus I've uploaded a phone cam pic of how I currently have it, otherwise I'll freeze when I play any game for more than 5 minutes
26SidedCube
Thanks for the links guys. I'm trying to use Brutus right now but it's looking pretty bleak. What's the deal? You're just supposed to let it run Brute Force for like a week and then you get your password if the combination happens to come up? There has to be an easier method than this. We're not looking to edit the account, we just need to check out some of the pictures. Can't I get a list of the sub-directories and their contents pretty easily?
