STREET SMART: Who owns public space? Is graffiti art? The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art teams up with Krankies Coffee to explore these questions during its Street Art Film Series this weekend. The series is in association with its Inside Out: Artists in the Community II program and a visit from the program's sixth artist, the Canadian street artist Roadsworth. The line-up features a 7 p.m. Thursday screening at Krankies of Style Wars, a 1983 documentary intertwining graffiti, break dance, and the birth of hip-hop, with a soundtrack set to the Sugar Hill Gang, Grand Master Flash and other rap pioneers. On Friday, there's NEXT: A Primer on Urban Painting, and Saturday, a documentary about Roadsworth's clandestine campaign to perk up city streets (vines choking traffic dividers; a crosswalk transformed into a giant boot print). For a complete schedule, go to http://www.secca.org. All films are free.
