    throwups

Yeah, I understand the concept of staying simple and I feel I have. It's not as though the letter forms I'm tryin to use are overly complicated. Infact they are all oneliners. I guess I'm missing where it is I've gone off mark. Yeah, sure I didn't have to put those backgrounds in, or put a fill in, but why not. Just because a throw is somethin simple doesnt mean it has to be black and white on a page. So I tried something I thought was interesting, guess it didn't work. I just thought I would to take a throwup, and try to use a whole page, with all the markers sitting around me. Even though I used throws as a color study, does that take away from the throw itself? I don't particularly see the point in wasting an entire page if all I intend to do is dick around with a bunch of markers as I watch tv. Im not trying to justify the way they look. If they dont float your boat, that's cool. I do however think that too often on here people instinctively assume that a person they haven't heard of doesn't have a conception of what they are doing, and thus they get dismissed. I have spent a long time trying to understand letters and take them to their simplest form. So yeah, I do understand what it is I am doing. Im not proclaiming to be amazing or great at it, but that atleast I do have an idea of how things should be done. ps. To the concept of putting in work before criticizing other peoples art, I dont think it is an issue ofposting your own stuff as to legitimize your claims, but rather understanding the artistic ideals necessary to effectively critique art. That being said, I think that if in fact you do meet that criterion then there is no real excuse for a monosyllabic dismissal of anyone's art. If you have qaulms with it, say why. edit for formatting and more thoughts
  2. all i have left pictured. ill try to add more soon. im curious what you have to say. also, I meant to say I have been sorta focusing on the whole doing it quickly thing. I wanted to see what would happen if I tried to use all of the markers I had in a quick way. That was the idea behind that stuff I suppose. Not to justify it, but rather explain it. I have something Ill post tomorro when I can take a pic. Thanks for your interest at all.
  3. Any expansion on what ya dont like? I'm all for criticism...
  4. a little more of just random shit...
  5. I havent posted anything Ive done in a while. I finally have gotten to a point where I want to show other people what Im doing. It took me a long time, but I found i enjoy simpler forms much more than anything complicated. I have just been watching tv and sketching with the markers around me. I hope you enjoy: all were taken on camera phone, so sorry for the quality
  6. So I went to the school store today, and what do I find but Charlie White's book. So I got it. I was a little suprised to see it at my schoolstore. I know there was a thread a while ago on the book. I had remembered reading about and looking at the pictures from it on here, but it's nice to have the actual book to take a closer look at. At first I wasn't sure what I thought of the photographs, when reading about them on here. But after spending a bit more time with the pictures, I am really impressed with them. I like the set about the alien invasion the most. The best by far though, is the picture of a rich white family inside their house. I thought having the child playing with the toys of monsters and aliens, was a really interesting touch on the idea behind that series. Im curious what were other peoples preffered sections of the book.
  7. Maybe, some kind soul would like to put it up on a yousendit? or maybe would pm me and hook a fellow 120zer up?
  8. I didn't believe yalls response to it at first, but that is amazing... I think your lookin at it the wrong way yuck. Think about it as if you were whomever it was who owned that house. How awesome that would be. Who cares about the neighboors when your house has better musical timing than any prog guitarist alive... I certainely dont.
  9. I just got my copy today. I have to say raven, I'm really impressed. I did not get a silver or a gold, but in a way I'm happy about that. I like the aesthetics of the black cover more. I think my favorite thing about the book on a quick glance is the way the book seems to engage you. The white open spaces at the end of the progressive sketch section. Or providing the truck and train forms for people to copy and play with. Overall I just wanted to say out of the last several books I've bought geared towards graffiti, this is the most interesting yet. In its presentation and content. The gloss overlays are amazing by the way. How many of the boards are left on fourthehardway? I am gettin paid on friday and am hopin to catch one of them.
  10. Does anyone else get into the epistomology of all of this? Its like there are a couple camps as far as general perception of the hip hop culture. There are those that sorta go purely for the money. Those that appeal to the more traditional apreciation of the lyrical content. And then there are those that seem torn as to which part their allegiance lies. I think it ha to do with the way that one classifies the music in general. If one starts breakin down specific artists as either rappers, backpack hip hop, underground, whatever. It seems that the ones who have a higher leveled classification for the type of rap it is, are the ones who care more about the susbtance of the content itself. The ones who tend to lump it all in one larger classification of purely the rap game, are the ones that respect the hustle of it all, and care less about the content of the product being sold. Then you got those like 8onus, who seem to struggle between the money and the content. Maybe I'm just too high. Either way that killed some time. ps. I mr. lif- pull out your cut, one of the best songs around right now...
  11. I just went through all the pics. That was an intense lesson inn consistency. The fact that no matter how simple the thing he was workin on, it was so perfect. Every line is so decisive. Not to just ramble about it, but it isn't often you get such a personal look into a person's stylistic process. I hesitate to say it is a progression, because while many of the ideas are honing a specific style, a lot of them are rather different on the aspect each sketch seems to focus on. Either way its nice to see a new source of inspiring works. Between 12oz, lay-lo and all of my books and mags its awesome to find new shit.
  12. I have been watchin raw every monday night with some friends. Make an event of it. Goofy yes, but fun times. My friend woke me up yesterday yellin "RIP EDDIE GUERRERO" we left off all our work for classes and dedicated the day to him. It's funny seeing people from your childhood die randomly. Just seems to have been happenin a lot lately. RIP LATIN HEAT
  13. Exactly. I had the same issue, but o well. At least we are getting it at all, ya know.
  14. Just got confirmation of shipping from 95 gallery. I couldn't afford fast shipping, so well see how long it takes. 25 days at most. Ive waited this long, I can wait a little longer. Im just glad I caught a copy while I could. I was afraid I was gonna somehow forget about it.
  15. just two markers and some boredom...

^^^do you go to hampshire college?
  17. ey fatalist, how has houston been reacting to the off season? Im up north so I have no idea what the city has been doing.
  18. GO STROS!!!!!!!!! I hadnt even known what time the game was on today. Got a txt from my father about berkman's grandslam in the eighth. I started watching from then all the way till Burke's single shot homer in the 18th. Absolutely rediculous...
  19. I used to have an 89 ltd. I loved that car. Crown Vics are a lot of fun what size is the engine in yours? Some of the most fun is when you can just swang that car around like the boat it is. Nothin like cruisin at 3 in the mornin with no one else on the streets.
  20. I just wanna say good luck to all my family and friends at home in Houston. PMB, Fatalist, and from what it seemed like Tease, good luck you guys. Ive lived in texas all my life, and mostly in our around Houston. I am having a really hard time from being up here in the north and catching only snippets. I to some extent wish i were home just to make sure my family is ok. I think one of the brighter ideas is what I heard from my father this morning. He said they are headin out southbond first then go in east and head north. It seems like that might be a faster way to get north than taking 45 north or I10 east. Just thought Id put that out there for those that might be tryin to figure how to get out. If one were to head to Laredo, they would probably only be facing a tropical storm by the time it reaches there. Stay safe everyone
