    NORTH KOREA

my japanese friend and i were talking and he was under the impression that the rape of nanking never occured and that actually the chinese did it to eachother and they blamed it on the japanese. its obvious that the textbooks are glossing over what bad people the japanese became during that time. now im not a diplomat and i dont really know how you can make up for the loss of life. no apology or amount of money can change the horrible effects of war. so what is a sufficent apology? i was under the impression that japan never apoligised to china or korea. but i did some research and found there have been many apologies. one even from the emperor himself when he visited beijing. also the japanese have poured millions of yen into the chinese economy. what else can they do? i guess the only country that i can think of is germany that many people agree have apoligised sufficiently. is america ever going to say sorry for agent orange, or god knows what they used during the gulf war on our own soldiers? as for north korea. they are scary. they wouldnt last a week in a war. kim jong knows this and i believe he wouldnt hesitate to press the button and send off nukes into tokyo before getting his wig split. south korea. well to be honest they are just morons to me. north korea dug tunnels under seoul in the event of an invasion so they could just pop out in the middle of the city. yet during these recent talks they stall and seem to side with north korea. when i went to south korea the people were really unfriendly in general. alot of restaurants refused me service. the writers were cool though. but in general i felt very unwelcome. my guess was because of the US base. which on one hand i can understand. who wants jar heads from nebraska causing trouble in your city, but if they werent there they would most likely be invaded the day after the US pulled out. my plan, send a few highly trained individuals to take out kim jong. problem solved. north korea can either join with south korea or establish their own country and live in peace and without poverty without a midget dictator. any volunteers?
  2. it looks like the english title will be hidden blade not devils claw. oni no tsume kakushi ken translates to devils claw hidden blade which sounds cooler than hidden blade but whatever. same director as twilight samurai heres a write up on it hidden blade
  3. if you like this film also check devil's claw. i don`t if they are bringing it to the US or not but it was pretty cool as well.
  4. like previously stated this movie really sucked. the only positive thing i could say is that i like the integration of computer anime and live action. i could give you guys a heads up on whats good and whats bad if you want but i figure that theres not a lot of people on here that like japanese film.
  5. im curious if chinas success isnt a bubble like japans was. personally im optimistic and think it isnt but economics isnt my strongpoint. all i know is that if everyone started using the euro with buying trading etc america would be finished. the thing i find really interesting about china is how well they speak english compared with japan. they knew from the beginning. speaking english is the greatest weakness of the japanese. did anyone see crazy english documentary? i thought it was pretty interesting.
  6. whats even funnier is that gurnee illinois is known for miles of strip malls selling only defective stuff. like the polo horse riding upside down

    NORTH KOREA

i read a poll in the japanese newsweek today that asked do you like north korea? 75% said no 15% said i dont know 10% said no comment 00% said yes
  9. When it comes to the 5% elite controlling 95% of the populations wealth, i guess i chalk it up to yin and yang. its very similar to bush`s war on terrorism. light cant exist without darkness. can we really have a equal and fair society? before it was whites and against blacks. now its hetro vs homo, christianity vs islam. we made monopoly laws only to strengthen the present megamillion $ corporations. that is just a part of capitalism as much as it is a part of life. i don`t think communism is the answer. look at china. as soon as they had the chance to be capitalists they began making money at such a rate that they now have one of the most inequal levels of wealth distribution in the world. When i was in college alot of friends that had graduated always tried to persuade me to drop out because they said hey look at me, i graduated and i dont have the job i want. well 5 years later i am in a different country, got the job i had went to school for(though i eventually quit it), and im talking crap on the internet now. my friends are doing the same thing they were 5 years ago.
  10. is kinda strange but interesting how countries tend to butcher other countries food to fit their tastes. for example chop suey doesnt exist in china. sushi doesnt = japanese food. sushi isnt even a main dish in japan more of an appetizer. wheres the tacoyaki, okinomiyake, udon, soba on the damn menu?? also avocado in the sushi is definitely a no no. the japanese version of pizza never ceases to churn my stomach. mayonaise, corn, squid, shrimp, octopus ink, bamboo, chicken all together i`m sure makes italians turn over in their graves. japanese tend to use mayonaise on anything and everything. mayo and white rice, sweet bread mayo butter and a hotdog combo. then if i order french fries they look at me strange if i ask for more than one ketchup. japanese version of curry over white rice is nasty to me. i love korean bimbimba without the beef and ecoli raw egg on top. Japanese tsukemono and rice (japanese pickles), umeboshi (pickled plums), nato ( fermented soybeans) agedofu (fried tofu) nimono (sea vegatables) and udon.
  11. It`s all about the euro mags Wanted from Spain Style file from Germany
  12. duh.. rereading that i seemed to have missed the class system comment but i think his point is you cant change the power system so dont just sit around pumping gas for a living and say oh woe is me.
  13. yeah i was just joking. you couldnt really use a katana in any sort of defense other than killing someone. and where im at one look at a tall white boy is enough to send a japanese burglar running.
  14. ive been doing iaidou which is pretty cool. i can slice a person in half while sitting down on the floor drinking tea. :king: but hell i certainly cant walk around with a katana up my sleeve. its very similar to kendo without the yelling and screaming. no sport - all art.

    NORTH KOREA

bush should have wiped out kim jung before he went after sadam. the north koreans would have appreciated being liberated much more than the iraqis. kim jong is a 4 foot tall mole with platforms and a hairdo outta bride of frankenstein. it would kinda be like the monkey vs the mole. i often think about that ren and stimpy episode where stimpy is told not to press the big red button but he just can`t resist the temptation to press it.

  17. also esl. somone mentioned it earlier. we need appreciate that this exists at all. my friends son is a 5th grader and he came to japan speaking no japanese. my friend put him inot the regular japanese public schools and they set up a tutor for him but gave up on him when the korean and chinese kids picked up the language quicker than he could. they said its impossible for an american child to learn their language and that was it no more tutoring. my friend was forced to hire a private tutor in order for him to keep up at school not to mention extra help from his japanese wife. japan is becoming more international and they still havent set up an esl class or any program dealing with the rising international population. a brazilian boy came to school and they gave him to me and said you are both foreignors so you can get along. true our faces are similar but yo i cant speak portuguese.
  18. I work as a teacher in Japan so this is an interesting topic to me. first off i`m all for reforming our US system. there is always room for change. in particular i think vocational schools, homeschooling, or anything else that allows the student to get hands on experience rather than just textbook nonsense is better than what we presently have. not to mention the difference between city schools and suburban, aka minority vs white schools. in terms of comparing US students vs asian students what are are we comparing them by? test scores, students that continue to college, who takes education more seriously, etc? kids in japan go to school 6 days a week from juniour high. they go almost all year round and during their breif vacations they are required to do homework and come and participate in afterschool activities. after school, after sports or piano, they then go to english conversation schools and juku (cram) schools. they are so overworked that they can barely keep awake let alone learn english. anything that is tested is basically consited of dates, whos who, factual info. the amount of crap crammed into the test is enormous. after the test everything is forgotten and replaced with next weeks exams. so they arent really learning the info they are regurgetating it. ask them an opinion question with no right answer all they have to do is give reasons to back them up and they fail soooooo miserably. simply because they cant answer why to anything. their teachers dictate/lecture they dont discuss. if a student asks a question he is ridiculed. no asks a question in japan ever even if the whole class doesnt understand for fear of looking stupid. yes its true that asian elementary 1st graders are learning multiplication, and the highschool students are studing college level texts but they have no thinking skills. the biggest gift of american education is common sense. we take it for granted so much as if duh everyone has it thats why its called common sense. but asian schools do not teach common sense or cognitive learning. i remember in 5th grade there was a common sense test. a test besides all that stanford crap. a question i remember was theres a man, he works at a hospital, he went to university for 10 years, he earns a lot of money, he has a stethascope, he works long hours, whats his job? i immediately yelled out oh i wonder what the hell could his job be?? he`s a doctor duhhh. but japanese students would answer i dont know you didnt tell me what his job was. they cant put 2 and 2 together. universities in japan are really difficult to get into because of their entrance exams, once they pass, as long as tuition is paid they graduate. regardless if they come or not. japanese parents that want their kids to get a descent education at best must pay high prices starting from preschool. in order to get into the ivy league kindergarten, then elementary school etc. they pay more for basic k-12th grade education than we do on university. because of the high level of competition kids are bullied nonstop from other kids. especially the nerds that are extorted for their money in front of teachers and no one bats an eye. their culture is based on group society and anyone not fitting in gets picked on. the teachers pick on the students constantly. my japanese writer friend dropped out of jr high the first month because the teacher told him contantly to quit school because he was of a lower cast. dont think that india is the only one, japan still has it but covers it up really well. japanese companies dont hire lower cast members so going to highschool would have been futile for my friend. dont even get me started about textbook content. japanese history books gloss over atrocities during ww2, they portray themselves the victim of the atom bomb but never mention why the hell it was dropped on them. the chinese books portray the japanese as devils but fail to mention all the aid and numerous apoligies given by the japanese. i talked with chinese students studying in japan and they never even heard about tianemmen square massacre or mao`s famine. so my point is school sucks no matter where you live. and test scores wont prove shit, let alone when you compare apples and oranges. but at the end of the day i have common sense, and if i fail i pick myself back up and start again. if theres something i didnt learn in school but want to learn i know how to get that info. i ask why constantly. japanese students cant think, give opinion, answer why, and when they fail they jump off a building or on to an oncoming express train. i now appreciate the crappy FREE public education i got from the city of chicago.
  19. i wouldnt go even if i had free tickets :headache:

  22. the only japanese group that i know of thats good is melt banana. but i've only been to a few shows. they charge like $20-30 a show, the groups all sound like american cover bands, and the dancing is ridiculous. like one person will dance at a time and they wait in line and the next guy comes swings his arms around and when he finishes the next dork comes up. its seriously retarded. like performance hardcore dancing. i'd love to just run jump kick grab mics and have everyone dance at the same time but they just dont get it. anyways thanks i'll check them out and let you know .
  23. no problem i just have to look you up when i'm in your area. your stuff was still up until last week. the city buffed the whole river spot and even further :bawling: yeah i miss hardcore. cheap shows, great music, and canvas vans. however i dont miss the lame people that went to the shows though, they can go to hell.:hatred: aka unpopular jocks that dont drink but need some serious anger management classes:heated:
