seriously.

i was writing an email about 10 minutes ago , and ihappened to have a TV on in the other room. and normally i could give 2 fucks what is on (read: background noise) but i heard a very framiliar tune in the background.... so i turn around and look to see whats going down , and there are these asshole palying frisbee in traffic while driving SUVs and so on. im like what the fuck. the song BTW is "Bohemian like you" by the Dandy Warhols. now , seriously what the fuck advertising genius cooked this shit up. so why am i so mad about this? is it because a band i liked happened to be cashing in on the ultra hip advertising market? or is it a little deeper than that....

i present to you the lyrics to said song. now as im writing this , said commercial is on again. im growing more and more irate. so i would like to ask anyone who is bored enough to actually respond to this , what the fuck the connection is here? fucking forreal.

or its because i happened to be a fan of said above band. and i dislike the commercial not due to the fact that the band "sold out" , but because the song has nothing to do with the goddamned product that is being sold , or the lifestyle that is portrayed by said people throwing frisbee's from their brand new GM vehicles. read the fucking song!!!!

They've been using that song on a car advert here in the UK for the past year or so. I hate that song.

On a side note, there is also an advert here promoting tourism in Australia, that uses the song 'There She Goes' by The La's, which is a song about doing heroin. Always makes me chuckle.

I dunno, I keep reading the lyrics and they make perfect sense for that ad. I can't tell if it's mocking or glorifying hipsters, but it seems to have a lot of lines that refer to coolness in general (some of which iloveboxcars pointed out), which you'd definitely want to associate with your product.

And even still, the chorus alone, "I like you", is a strong, simple sound byte that, regardless of the context it's used in, works to establish a positive impression of the product on the viewer. That's all you need from a song. It doesn't necessarily have to be explicitly about playing frisbee in SUV's, or even about having fun in general.
