Santa Fe New Mexico

Just got back from Santa Fe yesterday . Pretty dope town, especially if you're down with Mexican Food and art.

 

I can't take credit for the shots, I don't really snap photos these days (or ever take my phone out of my pocket at all). Prefer to just sort of take in the view myself, no camera, so all of these shots in this post are my wife's. I might post like 3 or 4 shots I took later.

 

 

 

 

 

Our 15 year old Dutch Sheppard came along for the trip. Needless to say his old man knowledge, and wisdom made the trip go smooth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Road Empanadas come in handy, 6 hour drive.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stayed in one of those old western Motels that prostitutes and homeless people usually stay in. Brought me back to the early 2000's in Denver. I'd quit my job to go snowboarding more, run out of money, break my lease before I got evicted, and end up crashing in one of these places for a week or two until I could hustle an upgrade out of a week to week like this, and into a proper shithole apartment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Motel has been upgraded for art loving hipsters like myself, meaning zero upgrades as far as modern fixtures, and amenities. It does have good art, and designer furniture on the low if you've got a the discerning eye. Like I said, cool hipster shit, so the people staying there were all sort of cool amplifying any good vibes.

 

 

 

 

Walked in and saw an Original Ta Matete print hanging in our kitchen. Also noticed the spot next door had a Naguchi coffee table $$$$$. Subtile hints of decadence, but just enough grit to please the hipsters and "keep it real" whatever that means. Mind blowing the level of taste, and money that went into polishing this turd considering the level of dive Motel we were in. Also weird I'd consider the turd polishing a great success. That's Santa Fe for you though. According to the locals in the bar that night, apparently Santa Fe is the 3rd largest art market in the U.S. behind NYC, and LA. Small town, didn't see anything higher than 3 or 4 stories high, but there were big art vibes all around.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyway, the next morning we did our only planned thing, taking a tour of Georgia O'Keeffe's humble home, and studio in Abiquiu (about an hour outside of Santa Fe).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Multimillionaire artist, but she lived in a very humble Adobe home. Didn't feel like superstar vibes. Was sort of like visiting one of your cooler friends houses (if it were made out of adobe). I mean it was simple, had a nice view, an awesome garden, 2 car garage, and just cool shit hanging on the walls. Not much else too see if you don't notice small details.

 

 

 

 

 

 

She passed away in 1986, at age 97, nothing in the house has been changed since then.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rule of the house was that if you visited, guests could only gift something not store bought. So there were rocks like these all over people would find and gift her, and handmade art, and crafts people would bring.

 

Pretty good house rule if you ask me. I hate people bringing me junk I'm probably going to throw away and feel all guilty about it. If you ain't got a painting or something bring me a rock from a cool hike you took somewhere and tell me about it. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So I'm not posting any of her work, which I'm sure you can find because there was none there. Just going to pass along this story I picked up in there about how she was losing her center vision later in life, and only had peripheral vision. She'd still paint bangers, and painstakingly use the very edge of her vision to see what she painted. She also got into sculpting with clay. She said sculpting changed her life because now she could see with her hands.

 

Anyway, point being, there's literally no barriers to doing what you want to, but only if you're lucky enough to have the right perspective. In her younger years she had to paint circles around all her contemporaries before they'd acknowledge her, and eventually, they all did. Pretty bad ass human.

 

TLDR: I fucks with O'Keeffe heavy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This was her bedroom where she spent most of her nights later in life. Again, wifey shot this, and she took it just outside of O'Keeffe's bedroom window. The refection kind of shows the view she had from her bed at least during the day. So remote, and since it's a dessert every night was a full blown bright milky way outside of her window.

 

 

 

 

Next stop was Downtown Santa Fe for some shopping, and good food.

 

 

 

 

Too rich for our blood. Ended up looking at Navajo blankets from he early 1900's late 1800's. Pretty insane if you can invest, and own a piece of American history like this. Some were as low as $3000 but I wasn't prepared to drop that much, and they don't accept crypto there (yet).

If I could have afforded to buy one, it would have been this one. Authentic Navajo circa 1910. Background/fill is insane looking like a landscape. The red crosses in the corners represent "Spiderwoman", the Navajo deity that taught them how to weave these dope blankets. Maybe next time ETH is pumps up 10X I'll cop one of these.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyway, wifey kind of gifted me this insane knife. Spydeco (local knife maker in Colorado by where I live). Seki-City stamped blade (Japanese made steel), and a handle by Santa Fe Stoneworks made of turquoise, with a mother of pearl web pattern.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

She's so into food, she copped this knife for herself, just for cream cheese spreading.

 

 

 

 

 

 

That's it really, only one full day to chill. I'll have to grab my own phone now to see if there's any shots on there worth posting.

Did you sell all of your camera gear? Or just can’t be bothered with it anymore? I remember you being heavy into photography.

 

Is that Spyderco a custom Delica or Endura? Can’t gauge the size. Post up some more shots of it when you have a chance.

Georgia o Keefe and the pussy paintings are amazing. As a artist myself I struggle with entering conversations about fine art and the famous makers. I know of plenty but at the same time not really. Anyways sounds like a cool quick trip though. Also soy with my little eye a tesla 🤔🤔🧐??

Sold the camera gear in 2016/2017 and stopped shooting all the time, pretty much the same time I stopped using social media. TBH these days I almost never take photos.

Yes, it’s so fucking “must see” IMO. A lot of buildings are adobe, and a kind of faux adobe with stucco over bricks. Vibe is Spanish, Native U.S.

Im not sure if it’s a Delica, or an Endura. The blade is roughly 3 inches long.

Yea @LUGRNormally I'd throw it in a drawer because it's pretty AF, but it's so well built it's about to get every day carried, and probably fucked up a little, and damaged eventually.
