Weekend Assignment #001: yer Car or yer Computer: You must pick only one. Which one do you choose?

Yes! You must choose between the car -- beloved icon of American greatness and freedom -- and the computer -- the defining machine of the 21st century. If you choose the car, you do not get to touch a computer again, except for basic work-related purposes at work. If you choose the computer, no more personal wheels for you. And for those of you in a two-car family, there's none of this "oh, I'll just ride in my spouse's car" stuff: Any rides you bum have to be outside yer immediate family. Similarly, no using the spouse's or kid's computers, and those of you with super-enabled cell phones will henceforth use them only for phone calls. No Web-browsing, e-mail or text messaging. See, now it's gotten harder, hasn't it?

Extra Credit: Which was more expensive: yer first car, or yer most recent computer?

For me, this isn't even a choice: I'd go with the computer. That's because so much of my work goes through the computer -- including, uh, this, that if I lost the ability to connect with people through the computer, I'd basically lose about 90% of my income. As for getting around, well. It would be kind of a pain in the ass, because I live in a small town and if I need to go anywhere I need to drive. But one of the interesting things about where I live is that there are a fair number of Amish, and they seem to get around just fine. I could probably handle a horse buggy for short trips, and for longer trips I could hire someone (like the Amish do) to get me from one place to the next. Or get friends to drive me (I'm allowing that technicality). So yes, it would be a pain, but less of a pain than not having income. So for me, the computer is the way to go.

As for the extra credit, I bought my first car in 2000, for about $4,000. my latest computer is a cheap ass dell but i have in the past spent well over 3,000 and + more if I would have payed for the software, and shit

yer turn: yer car or yer computer. Which do you choose?

I don't own a car.

And have no plans of changing that.

I don't own a computer.

And although it might be nice to check my internets while at home, I am not so concerned with it.

It would only mean nights of drunken and meaningless posts.

I could take it or leave it.

i got no car so its a easy choice for me... and even if I did have a car I probably wouldn't have enough money for gas so it would still be a easy choice... and how could someone live without the interweb?

whenever i have command of a car, i feel guilty for emmitting gas.

when i am in a crowded computer lab, i feel guilty for emmitting gas.

if i were to drop a computer in the water, it'd probably break

if i were to drop a car in the water, theres slightly less of a chance it'd break

i really like swimming

ive never been able to pick up ladies with a car.

ive never been able to pick up ladies with a computer.

i like ladies, but they usually get mad if i try to pick them up.

if there was an bagpipe-accordion zombie infestation, i could use teh internetz to find out immediately and to plot my escape route.

in a car i'd take great pleasure out of running them over

i dont like this question.

I'd choose the computer. I can get knowledge, porn, music, entertainment, and waste time with it. I have the option to take the bus and walk to most places I need to go. I'd save alot more money if I got rid of my car.

first car: $950 1982 toyota corolla

last computer: $1150
