A dub would've been better, though! The easy way to justify "vandalising" that piece of art is to argue that, if the artist/council wants to impose their art on us, there is no reason why we shouldnt impose our own form of art right back onto them! I couldnt really give two shits either way, but if I saw a tag on Nelson's column, for instance (might have been done already for all I know) the least it would do would be to make me smile. You should import them - if you bought in bulk I can't imagine it being that expensive - although saying that they probably ship them via sea over here, which wouldnt really be an option for you. Also, in America we dont have art in alot of public areas. In fact, my photography professor told me just yesterday when he served on the arts council for the state, he traveled around and went to some counties where there was no public art at all. In the entire county. Art seems to not be appreciated at all around here, there is such a redneck mentality. Personally I love art, the process and the final product. But then again, I came up with SF as my main influence. I have nothing against Philly, I'm certainly not going to say the style sucks, because it doesn't. Frankly, I couldnt give a shit if a zonk tag wouldnt look good 6ft high. if he wants to do a 6ft high reach, he'll do a throwup. If you like the philly style, that's fine, but it doesnt mean it's the best, by any stretch of the imagination (other than in your opinion of course). I can see your point though, cos I remember seeing some massive shutter tags in that style and thinking "ooooh, that's quite nice, we havent got anything like that here" but now i just htink, what's the point. just do a throwup instead! Yes a good philly writer can bang out at least 8 diffrent styles on any random word but saying that we are the best and everywhere else sucks doesnt make sense to me. I use to like traveling before internet graff and most magazines to see the steez in New York, Miami or where ever, cause there are bangin hands all over the map. Peace.
