AR is an American weapons platform. To my knowledge there has never been a foreign manufacturer of any AR's.

Amazing how many politicians use gun control as a leading talking point / initiative but can't actually be bothered to do enough reading to have even a basic conversation about these things.

Says a lot, IMO.

IMO it's not about meaningful gun control, it's mostly about exploiting the emotions of the portion of the population that are mostly illiterate on this subject for votes. They don't care, they can afford to, or already have people guarding them with these weapons, having a monopoly on their use removes the limits to their power and would make them feel safer considering they regularly make decisions that harm large numbers of voters pretty regularly. Anyone with enough brain power to recognize her mistake probably isn't voting for her anyway.

If gun control laws were aimed at truly reducing gun crime, they wouldn't have the same vote appeal. The first assault weapons ban is a classic example, utter failure to make any significant impact, which should be enough to convince policymakers trying to make a difference to bark up a better tree. But again, it's not about our safety as much as theirs. Sometimes, like in this case , the smartest approach doesn't make the best sense politically.

• In 2016 374 people were killed in the United States using all (not just "assault") rifles.

• In that same year 1,604 were killed in the United States using knives

Those numbers are not a fluke, rifles, even the so called "assault" type kill less people than knives. Again, it's about votes, and removing limits to political power. A slippery slope that leads to eventually categorizing certain styles of blades as assault knives. For example banning folding knives, without noticing letter openers actually kill more people. Next thing you know were spreading butter using rubber spoon, and they're looking at getting rid of sticks.

TLDR:

Gun Control = Emotion > Logic
