earl broclo ESQ
I'm sorry, but I've been meaning to hit this thread with some links. Unfortunately, I haven't been keeping up on it, so if I repost anything --don't get butt hurt. The Gaturs "Gatur Bait" William De Vaughn "Be thankful for what you've got" Harvey --that version is faster and more disco then the one on that compilation. and another version as well, with vibes. "Be Thankful for what you've got part 2" Tyrone Davis "In the mood" Freddie Hubbard "Red Clay" Donald Byrd "The Emperor" Donald Byrd "Love So Far Away" Bobby Hughes Experience "The Piper Cherokee" Keith Papworth "The Hard Hitter" (one of my all time favorites) I'd probably shit myself watching them play that live in 1974. Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll & The Trinity "Indian Rope Man" Ike and Tina doing "Funkier than a Mosquito's tweeter" BUT.....I'm more of a Nina Simone fan. Nina Simone had more swagger on the mic than most of the so called "rappers" in today's hip hop scene. If you can't hear that, then you're fucking deaf and should become a fan of Celine Dion. earl broclo ESQ
If I fucked up any of those links, let me know. Nicky Thomas "I can't see nobody" I'm not trying to jack this thread with Reggae. I just wanted to post a few affects American Funk and Soul had on Jamaica's music. Reggae moved over to England and had a huge affect on their music. Northern Soul was also going on at the same time, and it was a result of American Soul. Here's a Documentary on the Wigan Casino, below, which was like the Studio 54 of Northern Soul. Wigan Casino was operational until like 1981, so I'm assuming this footage was taken before then. Some of the dancing might look a little fruity, but there is a definite b-boy resemblance in some of it. I'm not sure if these kids even heard of Rocksteady Crew or New York City Breakers at that time, but who knows. Anyways --it was like a soul music rave scene, but not so candy, and definitely not so techno. It was all about the DJ's and their track selection and how they got the crowd going all night, while the crowd popped pills and got high. Some samples of the music: The Steinways "My Hearts Not In It Anymore" Coasters "Crazy Baby"
