Afghan man prosecuted for converting...

Recommended Posts

from today's Boston Globe:

March 19, 2006

KABUL, Afghanistan --An Afghan man who allegedly converted from Islam to Christianity is being prosecuted in a Kabul court and could be sentenced to death, a judge said Sunday.

The defendant, Abdul Rahman, was arrested last month after his family went to the police and accused him of becoming a Christian, Judge Ansarullah Mawlavezada told Associated Press in an interview. Such a conversion would violate the country's Islamic laws.

Rahman, who is believed to be 41, was charged with rejecting Islam when his trial started last week, the judge said.

During the hearing, the defendant allegedly confessed that he converted from Islam to Christianity 16 years ago when he was 25 and working as a medical aid worker for Afghan refugees in neighboring Pakistan, Mawlavezada said.

Afghanistan's constitution is based on Shariah law, which states that any Muslim who rejects their religion should be sentenced to death.

"We are not against any particular religion in the world. But in Afghanistan, this sort of thing is against the law," the judge said. "It is an attack on Islam. ... The prosecutor is asking for the death penalty."

The prosecutor, Abdul Wasi, said the case was the first of its kind in Afghanistan.

He said that he had offered to drop the charges if Rahman changed his religion back to Islam, but the defendant refused.

Mawlavezada said he would rule on the case within two months.

Afghanistan is a deeply conservative society and 99 percent of its 28 million people are Muslim. The rest are mainly Hindus.

So what you're saying is that the basis of the Islamic religion is absolutley fucking retarded? Because that's what I think you're saying...

And if you are saying that it is indeed retarded... is it ok for us to kill the ones who subscribe to such laws?

There is no "regime" in Afghanistan... Shria is what the fuckheads wanted there so they got it. But don't worry, Islam is a religion of peace and justice so all that shit will probably workout (by that guy being killed).

no, I'm just saying, It's possible that he didn't know he was going to be turned in and then charged with a crime and faced with death over it, but if I was (lets say) still a teenager living at home with my parents racking paint to go out a night and destroy personal property I definately wouldn't come home and tell my parents about it.

now, at 17 years old , I might have thought racking paint and destroying peoples property every day was a perfectly normal and productive lifestyle because...I did! And most of the people on this board think so too, but I wonder what their parents think about graff.

To a graff writer, It's what's up...all day every day, but to most people, they hate graffiti. To them it's a crime to us it's art, so again, my point is, it's all a matter of perception. You may not like their rules, then don't live in Afghanistan. People all over the world hate America, it's values, what it stands for etc. and some people will die for America. Both parties have their right to likes and dislikes. All I'm saying is don't be stupid...people love to jump in the middle of a wolf pack and then cry wolf. You don't have to agree with their laws , but they have a right to set them as they see fit and according to what they beleive.

My brother Risalat posted this on another forum and I think it raises an interesting question.

well my simple question is if he converted to christinity 16 years back then someone surround him might have observed, i think 16 years back the government was different, it wasnt a puppet government, a person passed already 16 years after conversion and no one knows? off course Afganistan was at that time an Islamic country so the point here is why he havent sentenced to death before or during the rule of taliban? why NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW?.......

as what i asked why noooooooow suddenly the death punishment been announced?? 16 years back if you "THINK" he converted in germany, how sure u of that he never visited afganistan from germany after the conversion?????? any proof????? why hes being punished noooow

I may sound like a bit of a conspiracy theorist here, but, I am convinced there are powerful, influencial, rich people pushing an all out media campaign against the religion of Islam. I mean, how is it that there are billions (were not talking about a few people in Iowa) were talking billions people in every city ,of every country ,on every continent.

Devoted people, who love Allah, who love Islam, who are peaceful, intellegent, non violent people. Muslims who are committed to this beautiful way of life and have the utmost certainty of the truth it contains.

Yet, a HUGE portion of non muslim public see this religion as an evil, violent religion. I see the news reports. Crazy guy in NC drives his car into students, 911, London, Riyadh, Egypt, the 1st WTC bombing. If I googled I could find dozens more.

One thing to realize is that to Muslims, Islam represents true Justice, Mercy, Compassion, Wisdom, Giving the creator is proper rights, as well as giving the creation theor proper rights. But today, all we see on the news from the Muslim world is bloodshed and mayhem. Well, another thing to realize is that Islam can't be defeated from the outside. The enemies of Islam realised this even diring the time of the prophet Muhammad and the fall of the Islamic empire was a direct result of the weakness of the muslims faith and incorrect understanding in the application of their religion.

Anyway, I said all that to say that I personally beleive that a huge portion of what we see today as being Islamic Jihad movements etc. etc. are not people who have the best interests of Islam in mind. On the contrary, there were hipocrates even during the lifetime of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who openly professed that they were Muslims, but they were confirmed hipocrates who sought to destroy Islam from within (mostly because they wanted the power for themselves) So, what about now?

We see the same trend.

And with Allah we seek assistance.

Ameen
