shai
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> I just goof around with it...nothing serious, but some people get WAY too wrapped up in MS, IMO. I'm doing what Mainter is doing, but not with Windows and without formal education. So, most of my time is spent learning code....that's part of what kept me away from 12 oz. I guess what I'm saying is that if you look at MS as another way to get email and to do some goofy things, it's fine. What's weird to me is when people who aren't too good with computers spend a ton of time developing a whole e-persona....my page took me an hour to do, and I think it looks better than a lot of the pages I've seen. Then again, it caters to my aesthetic. Wow, I cracked a grand finally....three and a half years! WHOOOOOOOOO!!!
shai
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> He has a lot of money, let's just say....he crashed a 250 with a ton of movies on it, and asked me what it would take...I sat down, figured it could be done for less than a grand. I'm working with some old HDs right now to see how it works, and whether it's a good idea or not. That's the Mac guy, BTW. If he gets the Intel G5 like he keeps saying, we're gonna have some fun this summer. That means I'll be busy till about the time that school starts....so my plans are fluid right now. I have NO IDEA what I'd do after school....probably Apache stuff, maybe security like you said.
_nightcrawler
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> ok well i have this problem. I downloaded this MOV converted and i needed to register it. I got to seriall.com to find a serial and i did. it was a keygen. I downloaded it, nothing happend. Now in that place that has the time on the bottom (forgot what its called), a message pops up saying i got the latest version of this worm virus or something. Its making pop-ups come up on the frequent and its slowing my comp down. How can i remove it?
shai
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> What kind of virus protection are you running? Get AVG or Avast and try using either of those to fix the problem. Only use one at a time, though, or they'll get confused. Also, you should post the name of the keygen so other people won't grab it. If indeed that is the problem. Those crack sites are full of malware....I'd steer clear of them, or find one that you trust and stick with it. They aren't static, though, so if the one you use fucks you up somehow, drop it and move on.
_nightcrawler
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> lol. im just running the virus protection that came with the computer. its called Symantec AntiVirus. So i should just run the program and it should fix the virus?
shai
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> Arrrrrgghhh...get rid of that, it's horrible. It's better than nothing, I suppose. By confused, I mean that they sometimes will work against each other if they are run simultaneously. Either of those are great...and they're free, too. Avast is better known, but when I ran XP I used AVG and never got a virus...so, yeah, try one of them out, and see what works. Mainter or casek will probably have something to add to this, they're a lot more adept at Windows troubleshooting than I am. Good luck. Oh, yeah- turn off Symantec before you run any other virus scanners...same thing, only one should run at a time. Just remember to activate one before you go online. Mainter
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> anyone i try... pc cillin norton mcafee panda.. all do the same thing do you recommend one in particular? yes only use AVAST!! or AVG, AVAST IS THE BEST well the problems seem to be if you put norton in it did not uninstall completey go to the site sense i do not feel like it and find the uninstaller and uninstall it if you can not find it i will take a look might take awhile..................... do it on your own. you learn better that way and then you can spread the knowledge the reason you have to find the uninstaller tool is because you can not have 2 antivirus programs running it will just corrupt your files so if there is any trace left behind (norton likes to do that) it will not install another one

shai
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> can somebody hook me up with vista and how to install it? I know someone who writes SAPE, so even if you aren't him, I'll do you a huge favor. Forget Vista for now, stick with XP or go open source....if you go the OSS route, try using a simpler version of Linux (MEPIS, Ubuntu, there's others, just ask)...OpenBSD is stable as hell, but there's a lot of things missing from it that I need. IMO, that's where the future of computing is headed....POSIX compliance is good shit. (Sorry, Mainter...you know how I roll.) Or, get a Mac. The new Intel Macs are amazing. You can run XP and OSX and have it both ways...and Darwin is BSD based. Even if the kernel is closed you can get an idea how UNIX works at least. Vista is going to be a fucking nightmare for a while, and people are doing some interesting things with XP. Checked out some of the stripped down versions of XP such as barely naked, casek is on point there. Also, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS sums it up pretty well. When filesystems are back-incompatible, I get nervous. I like what MS did as far as pushing the x86 architecture, but they need to get with the program as far as OS compatibility goes. That's including previous Windows systems. (Mainter is gonna kick my ass for this.)

He said that if you really wanted to understand computers, learn UNIX....so, that's what I'm doing. And, what do you know, he was right! He's a lot more right than me about most things. I think he's smart to go for MSCE certification...talk about job security. I'll stop talking shit for now. I think everyone knows where I'm coming from. Mainter
Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>> "naw preach the truth my brotha" only thing Vista is going to be huge when it gets released so it is best to learn it ONLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE ADMINISTRATING THEM if you are just toying with it do not waste your time its a beta you are not going to be any help to anyone except take up bandwidth for other users trying to download it and test it out on the real thy release betas so people like me can test it out tweak and find bugs and so we can learn in advance before it gets released to the public (need to stay ahead of the curve) shai is on the right track with the open source that market is huge and its coming up fast but still far away from MS
