I'm always inpressed by people who can draw straight lines, perfect circles and natural curves without help from plastic. Which doesn't mean you shouldn't, but it's a good skill to learn. also... (a hint for the toys) Try using a ruler for your 3D. Pick a perspective point (unless you want straight 3D) and just measure the distances evenly. It give the piece a more uniform look.
