Stack earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for Douglas Serk's "Written on the Wind" in 1956, and he won renewed popularity with his comic role in the 1980 movie satire "Airplane!" Stack also served as the narrator for the syndicated series "Unsolved Mysteries." He played crime fighter Ness in "The Untouchables" from 1959 to 1963, winning an Emmy for the role in 1963.
