another loser Posted August 7, 2002 Author Share Posted August 7, 2002 funny how all this swerved over into my fr8 thread. if you people do your research, revok hasnt been rockin his current style forever. and ive been seeing biters stuff the way it is for as long as i can remember. just accept the fact that this is 30 years after graffiti began, and originality isnt impossible, but its hard to acheive. or should i rephrase, its hard not to resimble someone these days. scar resembles ono in some aspects. revok got alot from ayer and then took that and progressed into what he is now. today you see pysa influence in his recent stuff, and revok influence in pysa's stuff. <HR> to hobbesv2: maybe im just not looking, but i very rarely see sharpie tags. ive even heard people be called toys for using them ("because real writers use paint or paint markers"). not saying i agree. moving along: old styles ARE what graffiti was built on. but everything evolves, and everything progresses. i see alot of people hate on daim, because he did something different. so many people jock on funk styles and look up to damage. its not about the damage, its about getting your name up in the most noticeable fashion. back in the day, when the walls were filled with marker tags, if people hadnt wanted to get noticed, they wouldnt have started going bigger and getting better, more "up" spots. im not saying the past should be forgotten. its the ultimate thing to school the future. the past should be documented (35mm film). the newcomers should learn from the past. the people that are progressing now did learn from the past. look at it like this, when picasso started art, he didnt automatically start doing cubism. he learned other genres of painting canvas. and the same with monet. you cant start a new style your first day. you have to walk the path cleared by others before you, but your time to lead and clear a new path will come. as far as balancing action and aesthetics, not everyone will see graffiti in a progressional light. look at Mber, whos been rocking the same stuff for how long? thats his business. hes doing something he loves. but that would get old to me. i guess thats just me.
