i can admit there are bad things that happen everwheres even in favelas but seriously..the kid being born has no choice in this..he or she will be the result of what two adults did...our culture in the favelas is more about survival and people have more serios issues to deal with, like finding jobs and equalty that they are not given by the outside society..favelados are ostrasized by the brazilian goverment and culture outside. Speaking as somebody from there we have gay, bi straight all types and I am not saying that this would be culturally acceptable but I do not see our culture would pick on this kid..instead the comunity (favela) would try to help the kid through a normal life.. I will give you example of how we deal with things in the favela..I am sure you know about drug adiction right? Well in the favela, if a woman is caught as adict on drugs her kids can be taken away...not by the goverment..but by the residents association inside the favela..the outside has no control of how we live.....now in the US the child protective Service is called right? but then there has to be prooof...bla bla bla...well in the favela wemake and live by our own laws..no fighting, no stealing, raping or killing...the drug dealers do kill but this is usualy people who are in some way involve in the drug trade.. so back to your response..NO THE KID WOULD NOT BE KILLED OR BEAT UP..if anything he or she would be protected by the comunity.

They found some jobs but no housing so they build the shacks on the hills in Rio de Janeiro. The word "Favela" comes from a plant that grew in the hills that was hard to destroy. The first "poor" residents settled on Morro da Providencia which is dowtown Rio. The word "Morro" means hill but if you are in Rio and say "Eu moro no morro" means= "I live on the hill"...this is the same as saying, I live in a/the "Favela"....because in Rio, favelas dominte the hillsides..the word favela although associte with the flower or plant too...mostly means now "Gueto" or "Slum"...we prefer gueto to the word slum.. the word "Favela" or "Morro" is ok too...many people also say "Comunidade" (Comunity)this also indicate a favela too...
