GnomeToys
http://wrt54g.thermoman.de/ I was having problems getting a wireless signal, which I need to powerpost my classy homoeroticisms on 12oz prophet. I found this firmware upgrade based on the original linksys firmware. It lets you increase the broadcast power of the router from the default of 28mW up to 251mW, which I don't even think is allowed by the FCC. In case you missed the memo, BIGGER NUMBER + ILLEGAL = AWESOME. I've got 95% signal strength now whereas before it was hovering around 30%. You may find this useful. Dirty_habiT
Just be careful... the problem that lies in that, is that your neighbors can pick up your wireless network and look at gh2y chicken porn on your connection... and you're responsible too... like if the anti gh2y chicken porn committe comes to your house saying that you've hacked the biggest gh2y chicken porn site in the world and you're in big trouble (and your neighbor is the one who did it)... you'd be SO SCREWED... GnomeToys
Make sure you're following directions, you don't want to screw up the flash over the web interface, because if you didn't know where that was you're going to have a hell of a time doing it over the serial port without an internet connection to get instructions from. You can solve the gay chicken porn problem by using some kind of encryption for your network. Actually, I'm kind of looking for some kind of program that will continually broadcast a small JPG, probably some kind of picture of a bunch of gay men in a pool, into thin air. Then if anyone starts trying to sniff the wireless traffic most of the data they'll end up with is gay jpegs and encrypted real traffic. GnomeToys
Who is your ISP... PM me if you don't want to post it. Some ISPs require authentication of the connection based on the MAC address of the device connecting to them. The MAC of these routers is firmware based, and flashing this firmware changes it, killing the connection. You need to run setup software from the ISP or call them and tell them you've changed network cards or whatever to get it working again. I had to do this, it's pretty painless. Flashing and resetting may have also turned off wireless security and a host of other things that your computer may still think are turned on. Do you have a computer that's wired to this router? Can you still access the admin interface?
casekonly
just pee on the router. i did it, works fine now. make sure power is on when you do this. just kidding. for all those that don't know, don't fuck around with stuff like hacked drivers unless you have a friend who knows. make sure that friend is on hand. really, i wouldn't recommend fucking with shit unless you know exactly what you're doing. it's not hard to learn, but you've gotta be motivated enough to where when/if something fucks up, you can solve it or take actions to solve it.
