I was in Thailand the other day and this thai woman that hardly spoke any english left me and all my friends in her little store for about half an hour while she went to find someone to repair a motorbike for us. And don't speak on what you have no clue about. If saudi is not your cup of tea, fine, but we're talking about the death penalty not whether you'd like to have a vacation home in Mecca or not. The point of the death penalty is to deter crime and when I was in saudi arabia, jewelry store owners would leave their shops un attended to go pray with millions of people from every country roaming about. Now if that's not a shining example of how the death penalty (along with fearing God) works , then I don't know what is. *not that they kill you for stealing, they just cut your hand off, but who's being picky? stunt double Posted February 27, 2007 Share Posted February 27, 2007 I don't know man i just cant really respect a place where the leaders are trillionaires from stealing the resources of the country and then if a poor person steals something their hands are cut off. yeah, because america is nothing like that... the leaders of saudi arabia haven't stolen anything, they nationalised the oil industry and have used it's revenue to build and fund infrastructure, free national public health and education systems. something that america lacks. amputation is only practiced in cases where the convicted thief is not poor, stealing out of need. correct me if i am wrong, but doesn't saudi arabia have universal healthcare? and free universal education for all citizens, basic humman rights that america abolished long ago... im not trying to argue that saudi arabia is perfect, in fact their treatment of homosexuals, foreign workers and women is terrible. for the record... im pretty sure that america is looked on as a pretty disgraceful plutocracy in most of the world. stunt double Posted February 28, 2007 Share Posted February 28, 2007 yeah man, i hear ya... like i said, i am not trying to defend saudi arabia, fuck that, their legal system is deeply in need of reform. and i did refer to how poorly women (among others) are treated within the legal system there. but fuck, nowhere is perfect... i just really respect how much saudi arabia, among other arab states, invest in developing a socialist health and education system, totally free, and available to all citizens. we really have a long way to go in that respect. I speak arabic, now. Not everyone in the middle east hate all americans, the educated ones just hate the western govt. policies and the uneducated are like rednecks and hicks here, dumb as a rock.
