"Police charged a Bethesda teen last week with more than 40 counts of malicious destruction of property for his role in the vandalism of several areas in downtown Bethesda.

A 15-year-old boy, who is not being named because he is a juvenile, was charged with 41 counts of malicious destruction of property under $500 and one count of malicious destruction of property over $500, according to a release from Montgomery County Police. The boy was released to his parents.

The boy, police say, is believed to be responsible for using markers, spray paint and United States postal mailing labels to write the word ‘‘WISK” and ‘‘PDC” on Metro trains and tunnel walls, newspaper distribution boxes and buildings in the downtown area. Police are still investigating exact locations.

Police do not have information on the meaning of ‘‘PDC,” but the boy told them that he thought it was cool to write the name of the detergent, ‘‘WISK” around town, said Blanca Kling, Montgomery County Police spokeswoman.

All of the incidents occurred throughout the month of November.

Police began investigating the teen because he left a backpack with his name in it at a Metro stop in downtown Bethesda, Kling said.

Police did not have an estimate of damages."
