  2. i'm in chicago so our growing season feels like 3 months. i leave them outside a week after mother's day then i take the tropical plants indoors during the winter i turn a closet into a grow room. i hope to get a greenhouse eventually the hardest part is humidity. even with a humidifier it still only gets to around 50-60% humidity and a lot of tropicals require 80-90% that variety of passion flower however can be left outside if winterized and will return in the spring.
  3. buy whole chicken, paying attention to price per pound rather than the total price i usually buy around 4 chickens (approx 3 pounds per chicken) plus 2 packages of hearts (2 pounds per ) and 2 packages of liver (2 pounds per ) thats around 20 pounds which fills about 20 containers which can feed him for about 30-40 days i feed half a container a day plus the vegetables and grain which i vary according to what im making that night. it helps to have a rice cooker that comes out to $30 not counting vegetables and grain or anything you supplement you are welcome to give your dog more if hes a big eater but my dog sleeps 21-22 hours a day i give him dry food but to be honest he eats 1/2 cup if that and i still use it because im not that confident in my vitamins/supplements so you are looking at around $1.50-$2.00/day vs dry plus canned food which used to cost me $3.00/day
  4. here was last years clivia miniata calliandra schultzei amorphophallus asterostigmatus amorphophallus konjac (leaf stage) tibouchina urvilleana mimosa pudica passiflora incarnata white habanero tissue culture
  5. $50 for (30lbs) dry food I spend around $40 and he likes it a lot more than the dry though his stomach can get out of wack from going from dry to meat dry to meat. but i can imagine it would be much less $ for pugs scrambled eggs is good but be careful of the high protein count i read up on dog food but only breed specific material so i suggest you do the same basic formula meat+veggies/fruit+cooked grain+supplements Meat: the best seem to be chicken and fish Veggies: anything accept onions garlic and grapes cooked grain: pasta, oatmeal, brown rice, etc supplements: theres a bunch but have little experience it looks like the rabbit is shooting a laser out of its mouth due to the wizard hat
  6. lol yeah symbols i switched since remembering you mentioning the molasses awhile back
  7. i took the pics a year ago and have since changed from karo syrup to molasses/agave i would like to stop cooking the food and change to raw diet but to be honest i cant afford organic only meat and still worry about ecoli irregardless of the source of meat. he still gets regular dog food which i mix nutro and wolf king. i mostly pay attention to the level of protein because akitas are susceptible to hip displasia so i make sure the protein level isn't too high and he doesnt get too fat. i believe he is about 85-90pounds now in terms of supplements i havent gotten that far truthfully i have a book that focuses on akita diet (akita treasure of japan volume II) and it has over 500 pages with a very detailed list of herbs from hops to ginkgo biloba i havent tried any of them except pumpkin which i use if he gets the shits. but the thing that i would stress is that making this food for him is cheaper than regular dog food can be created in an hour of boiling and separating and you are done for the month.

  12. http://www.gaijinpot.com/ here is a site that has apartments and job ads i suggest you subscribe to their weekly job mailer which will keep you up to date with who is advertising what the wages are and where. but remember to get a decent job you will have to go to japan first then apply. most places will not hire you from overseas. a few will but they usually arent the best places to work in the first place. also your salary tends to go towards their recruitment http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/JET/ jet program this is a govt sponsored exchange. its the safest way to get a job from usa. they find you a home but tend to put you wherever they need a teacher which could very well be in the middle of nowhere but the pay is good and there are alot of benefits.
  13. the cost of living is really subject to the person. but the current rate of full time english teacher is $2500/month this used to be a high amount in the 1980's like an equivalent exchange rate of say $5,000/month the middlemen (recruiters) have been trying to lower this rate for awhile now. irregardless, you will see lower or higher rates all over the place and you should be able to make due with this salary. where you live is up to you. most choose tokyo. alot of opportunities, a greater chance at a job paying 3,000- 5,000/ month, alot english speaking japanese, art culture is at its prime here. but you will have to pay for it. atleast until you can gather knowledge, network and find those spots close to the city yet are a steal interms of rent. rent can be $500-$3500 for a studio/1 bedroom. again you have to network meet people at bars, look in gaijin papers, people that are returning home can sell you all their shit with a car and a house if you are at the right place at the right time. school year begins in April and ends in Februaury so now in march is the time to be hired so the best time to go to japan for a job would be February, get your resume out there and be able to survive until April. private schools, conversation schools etc hire through out the year but again March would be the best month to increase your pick of the litter. i'll cover osaka later
  14. i'm not dead if you were referring to me. fukushima is basically the middle of nowhere and sendai is the most populated area it has clubs and graffiti it was a nice place to visit from what i remember i lived in iwaki city in fukushima prefecture drawing anime its like 20 minutes south of sendai the coast was beautiful but i hated the people there. they didnt like foreigners all that much japanese rednecks/country bumpkins. i was happy to get out of the area.
  15. Re: Tsunami Slams Northern Japan After Massive 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Coast my wife has been crying all day because she can't reach her parents i told her the word tsunami is japanese so she has nothing to worry about japanese people must of had so many of them they made up a word for it that didnt work so well and she wont talk to me finally about 5 minutes ago their land line is now working
  16. dogfish head aprihop ipa the aroma and first initial taste is just like founders double trouble (i was wondering what fruit that was) but i wasn't happy with the finish of it. the founders had that little extra that made the after taste hit the spot i had the camera out so i took one of these this is bought on the regular
  17. lol whats a lil hitler? is that some sort of short landing strip?
  18. did you have a grip of migraine medicine with you at all times? either that or trunk full of gorilla tape.
  19. making your own dog food i wrote this up, took pics and got lazy and never posted it up.. for making my own dog food i went to the $1 store and bought cheap tupperware. then i go to the store and buy whole chickens by whatevers cheapest per pound usually i get 2. then i get one container of chicken livers and one container of hearts. (nasty looking shit) depending on fresh vs frozen i then buy things like broccoli, carrots. i put both chickens into the pot and boil them eventually adding the veggies and gizzards towards the end. kombu powder kelp i also add dried seaweed/kelp and seaweed powder that i buy from asian stores it comes in a large chunk. good for the coat put an even amount in each container. give each a shot of karo syrup along with some broth. prevents the occasional convulsion/low sugar diabetes attack then i freeze them and thaw them as needed. you can add rice or plain pasta dinner is served
  20. if they want to keep it real i suggest they give every cent back immediately their street cred is on the line here i may no longer support them from the desk chair that i currently sit /definitely sarcastic/
  21. i had that dfh red and white. didn't like it. but i really liked the my antonia pilsner
  22. ^yeah with a name like monk's blood i'd expect an awesome label. i aged a founder's backwoods bastard which lost the refined taste and now just tastes like a stale beer with a powerful shot of bourbon i also aged a double trouble ipa. it changed colors a bit, turned a bit muddy, lost its bite and tasted a bit flat, no fruit bouquet. (new one on left/ old on right) i stored in a room temperature cabinet for a year. does it need to be in the fridge? or is it just a bad idea to age ipa's?
