i just don't get it. we live in an open market, capitalist society. if something sucks, let it sink as a result of consumers deciding it for themselves. i mean, i can understand if something is dangerous, or the welfare of a particular social group isn't being protected, but come on... dude is trying to rally against graffiti as if it were taxation without representation. i understand the (skewed) numbers they present for anti-graffiti efforts and the resources it takes to fight that 'war', but is the constituency out in queens that put this guy in office really that fervent about graffiti that they'll put this issue so high up on the list of priorities? worse, will they continue to allow their tax dollars to be spent trying to eradicate graffiti, rather then try and solve issues like decaying infrastructure, poor public school funding, the loss of so many firehouses, etc, etc? i believe Vallone is concerned with graffiti because it an obvious issue that's able to produce tangible and measured results without a whole lot of real problem solving or hard work... in other words, wagging the dog... keep their attention on graffiti, while everything else continues falling to shit.
