And you don't think that wackjobs who want to take out 30+ in a school shooting couldn't just up the ante with a bomb here?

You do realize that you kinda contradicted yourself and agree'd with me on this one right?

What?!

I'm not sure I understand you. My bottom line is that the gun culture, which you promote has bought your country to a stage where every body has to arm themselves against everybody else. However, the crazies that are suicidal are going to employ asymmetric tactics and start blowing you up instead of shooting you. So, you're pretty well fucked on that side of things. Lesson to be learned here is not to have such a silly gun culture in the first place. Sure, your nations was won under the gun, like some others, but after that the guns should have been restricted to those in the armed services and police...., otherwise the crazies get guns and start shooting up schools, malls, casinos, churches, bus stops, work places, etc.

As for the US now, I wouldn't have the first clue what to do, seems like a fucked situation with no way out. I tend to think arming everybody may lower the rate of mass killings but up the rate of small scale killings.

Gun control arguments, like a donut, they go around, around, have holes in them, sweet flavoured icing on top with delicious custardy centers.....

okay everyone is allowed to go armed, i decide to kill you, chances are i can still shoot you in the face before you or anyone else stops me.

that's the problem with the wild west fantasy scenario

And chances are that you could do that with a gun that you copped off your homie down the block. Legal or not. If you're gonna murk somebody in the first place then why would a gun ban stop you?

Are any of the illegal drugs in this country any less available?

Oh wait... you're not actually from this country. that's why you associate gun ownership with some wild west cowboy shit.

Known "crazies" can't legally buy guns in this country.

They could cop one illegally though.

Gun ban or not.

Yes, quite easily because there are so fucking many of them all throughout your society. The crazies in Sweden, UK, New Zealand, Ireland, Norway, Czech, Australia (to a lesser extent now we've enacted strong gun laws) have a much harder time acquiring weapons that can kill en masse.

Sure, they might access some rope or a paper weight, but how many people do you think they can kill with them before they get stopped by a passer by?

Today in Australia 5 youths went on a rampage in Merrylands West High school armed with baseball bats and machetes. They put a few in hospital but none in the cemetery. If they had of had guns, don't you think it would have been a different story then? If they had access to guns, do you think they would have used them instead?

my point was that you cannot make killing/murder impossible' date=' you can only make it a lot less accessible and easy, by alowing responsable citizens to keep their constitutional right to bare arms. So that they can better protect themselves against all the nut jobs who also have weapons because you can't keep them out of the hands of psychopaths when you society is flooded with them nor can you always accurately tell the *responsible* people from the nut jobs before they blow away 15 people in a school, church, mall, etc. [/quote']

*Fixed it for you.

I'm an Australian living in China.

Australia too has it's gun problems, but they are getting less so now that we have instituted stronger gun laws. We still have issues but we don't have the crazies like Marty Bryant wasting large amounts of people at one go. I dont mean to sound holier than thou or anything like that, but I feel that it is the liberal gun culture that has led the US into the situation where everybody has to be armed to defend themselves. As I said previously, I'm not sure that gun control is the answer for the US anymore being that there are already too many guns in the hands of the crazies because of the liberal laws. If there weren't so many guns in the first place, maybe the nut jobs wouldn't have been able to arm themselves like the VT killer, Washington sniper, the guy that shot up the Amish Church, the Columbine kids, etc. Now, I don't know what the answer is for the US, but I'm glad my country and the others I've lived in have the strict laws they do to guard against this outcome.

*Edit, just read the way you "quoted" me. Wow, you're bright huh? So, you have to come from the US to have an idea about anything inside the country? Does that mean you have no idea about the outside world yourself?

My country's so called "gun culture" has been on life support for decades. And is only getting worse.

When my pops was a kid it was standard for dads to teach kids how to handle, shoot, clean and RESPECT guns starting around the time they got their first bb gun at 9 or 10. And their first 22 rifle around 11 or 12.

And get this... the crime rates where nothing compared to what they are today.

And cops actually treated most people with alot more respect than they do now.

That's what happens when gun laws tighten to the point where guns are practicaly illegal.

The only people who carry them are criminals and trigger happy cops on power trips thanks to the fact that them being pretty much the only people legally aloud to carry guns makes them feel like Superman.

The founders of our country put it in writing that we need guns to PROTECT our free country from what the overbaring police state that it's become these days.

Half the point of the 2nd ammendment was to ensure our ability to stand the fuck up when corupt politics goes too far.

Corrupt politics have "gone too far" (vague, lofty terms are your MO) for quite some time now.

Yet I don't see guns being used for an uprising, I see them used in drivebys and street violence.

But whatever, what our forefathers decided over 200 years ago is completely relevant today in urban settings crowded with uneducated, frustrated men.

^Now here's something we can agree on. For some reason people that are all for facist anti-gun laws are called "liberals" over here. I never understood that oxymoron.

And who decides when it's gone too far? Do you think that every citizen with a gun is going to homogeneously agree on what should be done, when it should be done and how it should be done or do you think that could result in anarchy?

Anyway, as soon as some says something like "You don't come from here so how would you know shit" it's time for me to bow out. I prefer rational discussion over childish arguments.

All yours boys.

No, but I just find it funny that people from other countries are always woried about our domestic issues to the point that you even know who Charlston Heston is.

I couldn't tell you the first thing about Australian politics.

I've heard Australia's a pretty dope country though.

Ok, let me explain that to you, like I have many other things in this thread: Its because conservative politics means that government control should be restricted to property/contract law and allow society to regulate itself. That then implies that a man has the right to protect what he wants how he wants, hence, no restriction on weapons. A conservative government is conservative with their governing. However, a liberal government is liberal with their governing of a country, meaning they provide welfare, social law like censorship, etc. and also provide protection in society. That would also say that liberals think the state should provide protection, not every man for himself.

In short; Conservatives are conservative with the application of law, liberals are liberal with the application of law (liberal meaning "liberal doses of, or large helpings of).

I know, I know, I'm not form America so how the fuck would I know. But, if you still have trouble understanding this, feel free to ask and I'll explain it with lego and pop-up books.

Just jokes dude, don't take it as an e-slap.

I guess it's probably not too relevent anymore considering that the masses of brain dead morons like yourself are happy being one step above enslaved.

Ignorance is bliss I guess, huh?

Well Charlton Heston is an international figure, firstly for his acting and then secondly for his politics. I've spent some time in the States and am always quite surprised at how little of other country's politics gets reported over there. Most other developed countries pay close attention to the politics in the States because 1. it's the world power and your domestic situation always affects the global situation, 2. You're the worlds largest media supplier, so we get your news too.

As for Aussie politics, we just voted out a Prime Minister who had his head too far up Bush's arse. We are now getting back to the way it should be; a close relationship with the USA, but not a blank cheque. Yeah, it is a cool place. We're a lot like California in a lot of ways. Sunny, laid back and a lot of good looking chicks on beaches. I like the US too, for the most part. Have spent time on both coasts and have family in Connecticut.
