I'd like to see some good security resources (you posted a link some pages ago for a bunch of ebooks that has since vanished) specifically for linux. I know you don't really need security for linux but I'd still like to know how to use anonymous proxies, packet sniffers (i have snort but i'm not so sure what to do with it, or even how to install it. I also have ethereal but i'm not so sure how to use that either).... ummm.... a good port scanner, some way to analyze what the hell is going on in those ports.....encryption I have gnomePGP but there is no instruction manual. Hmm.... that might be it. Unless you think of something else along these lines.

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

found this on a wrt site

rock solid performance for WRT54G routers

This is a generic answer for ALL linksys routers.

Try usuing channel 1, 6 or 11 first of all (11 being prefered)

If your wireless devices are all 54G then if possible set your router to G only. if not set Wireless to B only (inless u have B and G devices) though B mode will give better signal than G

Adjusting the "RTS Threshold" can help alleviate Packet loss. If one of the Wireless computers can obtain an IP address but can not ping, then set the "RTS Threshold" to 2304

Adjusting the "Beacon Interval" can help association problems. If there is a wireless adapter that is able to see the access point, but is unable to get locked, try adjusting the "Beacon Interval" to 50

Adjusting the "Fragmentation Threshold" can help association problems. If there is a wireless adapter that is able to see the access point, but is unable to get locked, try adjusting the "Fragmentation Threshold" to 2304

If you have just one or two clients enabling frameburst will help. Make sure CTS is disabled. (WRT54G/GS only)

Try WEP security instead of WPA as signal strength seems to be reduced in WPA.

If your PCI adapter is still having problems this may be down to a IRQ conflict. try moving your PCI network card to a different slot on your Motherboard.

Also adding a Directional Antenna to your wireless PC's will help in reception. The DLink DWL-M60AT is a very good example of a Directional antenna that can be added to most Wireless PCI Network cards.

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

For mac users, there's a program called 'Quicksilver' that acts as a program launcher. Without having to use ur mouse or trackpad to launch programs, u hit a 'hot key' and it'll bring up quicksilver. you type the programs name u want to launch, and it finds/guesses it extremely fast. it's a productivity thing for ur mac.

if ur interested, go to http://quicksilver.blacktree.com

it's pretty cool
