Mainter
Sparoism what happened what crashed?
Guest Sparoism
Nothing crashed. The CD drive in my laptop is one of the old dockable units, and it's just worn out. I had to use cfdisk to install Ultima, and the CD drive was dropping every other package during the install. It ran Damn Small for an hour or so, and I was just gonna install that when the drive packed it in for good. I don't know exactly what's wrong with it, but my guess is that I just need to replace it. Seven years seems pretty old for an optical drive, to me. In case you're interested, it's a Compaq DRN-8040B dockable DVD drive,m made by Toshiba. As I said, I still have a 3.5" drive to work from, so I'm gonna put Basic Linux on the machine to see if anything else went wrong. If I can boot that up and get a console then I'm all good. Guest Sparoism
DamnSmall is awesome! I put it on my desktop and it's like having a whole new computer. Mainter, what do you know about partitioning primary NTFS drives with PartitionMagic? I just got the demo version, and I want to put a boot partition on my desktop for DSL. It's that good, you should throw it on that old box you got, and see for yourself. I don't want to start fucking around till I get an expert opinion, however. Guest Sparoism
Yeah, I know it has to be a fat32 but I don't want to erase anything by accident. Is it pretty straightforward or am I gonna be up all night doing this? And, once I get done, do I just load up the live CD and go find the correct partition and format it w/cfdisk or is there more to it than that? Bear in mind that I A) have one dead drive to deal with and B) have never used this app before.
lord_casek
pretty straight forward triple c. sounds like you have the hang of it. get the full version, though. http://ts.searching.com/torrent/337086/Par...emoving_Windows grab bitcomet if you don't have it already. download the torrent with that. "open with" and choose bitcomet
Guest Sparoism
How long will that be up for (I'm guessing that you're seeding it)? I'm in DSL live CD, and I think I'm gonna go eat something and pass out soon...maybe I'll wake up really early and try it out. Oh, and I use BitLord...I rarely use torrents. I'll only do it if I can't find a mirror for something I need to DL that's fast enough. I'll look into this tomorrow.
