i'm SUPPOSED to be sketching at work. isn't it ironic how what we all do in our free time for fun and to pass time is what i do for work and i fucking hate it? as soon as something you love becomes your job you hate it. unless it's like porno star or ice cream taster. but even then, who knows.

ditto. i painted legals as a job for about a year a few years back and i was sick of it after a couple weeks. i scored loads of free paint and it just piled up at my house cause i couldn't be arsed painting in my free time.

At my old job, i used to sketch... once i was sketching and this guy that i worked with came up to me and said " whoa man you write?" , i said " uhh no" then he looked at me and laughed. next day he brings a blackbook and we both draw in it all day. no biggie i think just make sure it dont get in the way of ur work

I used to sketch at work all the time in my last job, but I worked in a basement and my only company was a huge air conditioned room full of servers and switches... so no one ever knew/cared/saw me..

cant really now but I still doodle the odd dub.. just cant stop

Guest KING BLING

REAL ADVISE READ HERE:

In my first week of my current job, in a job similar to yours (I assume from your description) I did a full drawing of my companies name during training that my boss saw. I than was asked to draw out his name, which I did because he was actually real cool about it and plus I was getting paid. Now I am the resident artist that draws letters and comes up with clever ideas whenever something festive is taking place. I have been there for 2 months.

Why I was not fired during training and now when I draw - because I am confident in my attitude and when it comes down to what I need to know and my job I am reliable. Everyone that responded otherwise has simply not positioned themselves psychologically with those around them to get away with it. You can't abuse it but if you're on top of shit it's like putting your boss in his place but at the same time making them love you for your uniqueness and the fact that you don't act like you hate them...this applies to women as well

DISCLAIMER: I'm drunk and long winded tonight

I sketch at work, but thats okay for various reasons. 1. My boss is a good friend, so all my other various superiors don't have much say with what i do. 2. I'm one of the best there is at what i do, so they can't afford to fire me over insignificant shit like that and 3. i never let it get in the way of my work.

If you can fulfill most of this criteria, then sketch away fucko.

at the last office job I had I would draw alot especially while I was on the phone. I was asked about this once by my boss and I explained to him that its a habit I picked up during school (which is true) that when I am listening to someone/thing but don't have anything to really occupy the rest of me senses I will draw so that wasy it is easier for me to hold focus in what I am listening to and not let my mind wonder. Plus you just got to make sure you are on top of your shit and not slippin. Though I am guessing that with you doing a comission/sales based job you don't really get down time at work.

yeah...on the more serious side...I'm supposed to sketch at work and much like IQuit...I pretty much hate it. I've been thinking about going back to school or getting out of this side of the industry.
