who the cap fit, let them wear it....

Recommended Posts

although bob marley gets tons of recognition, he doesnt get enough. seriously, he is a prophet. his lyrics have more of an impact evey time you hear them. his music is the definition of wisdom. people think education comes from schooling.... his ideals make more sense than any shit you learn in school. what would the world be like today if he was still alive and performing???? i hope the CIA all die a slow death. all the government agencies. sometimes its overwhelming to think of some of the shit theyve done. peace to all the aquarius's out there.... one love....

Eh, Bob Marley's music is truly amazing, but his lyrics and ideas are pretty damn basic if you ask me.

NO CANCER, NO DIE good one!

People need to stop playing the Bob Marley Legend album.

Even my old vice-principal in junior high would play it. It's just over-done.

It's been on the top100 ever since it was first released, but it's time to move on!

I'm saying that too many of the poo-poo dreaded, trust-fund-afarians only want to know about the 'Chant down Babylon'-era Marley.

There's a huge body of work from his early rocksteady and riddim days. And to talk about him like a prophet without knowing his many styles is just silly.

(I'm not directing that at you jah, because you seem to know what's up)

so kids...

I gotta agree on the simplicity steez, and to me thats what makes it work. So many people are empty because we're always trying to find that profound sense of meaning (even when we're sober) in every aspect of life. And in alot of those areas ,no matter how hard we look we can't come up with answers. All the Marley music I've heard (I still haven't heard it all) comes from simplistic TRUTH.

theres stuff older than that album. i have one of their ska/rocksteady albums from Studio One. its pretty good but i think his reggea is better. i dont have it in front of me but i like a song about his Mother Leaving or something like that. i think its Where Is My Mother or Where has My Mother Gone.

the music reminds me of The Three Stooges and thats too great.

I was never a fan of his earlier rocksteady stuff. Me and my brother had assloads of rare tapes that are probably still somewhere around the house, this was back when I was 10. Nowadays I almost can't stand listening to Legend or Natural Mystic, cause it's been sooooo played to the ground by my friends who think that's all he did...

Anyways, my problem with his lyrics are the following: Say I am walking down the sidewalk, and I come upon a large red ball. Many singers would rhapsodize about the meaning of the red ball, why it's there, offer crazy and interesting ideas about, etc etc. Bob Marley says "You have a red ball ahead of you." In certain cases, he would add "You should smoke." And people are like HOLY SHIT HE'S RIGHT, THERE IS A RED BALL IN FRONT OF ME!!!

There's no point in singing about "basic" or "simple" ideas if anyone can arrive at them through common sense. The things he talks about are much better dealt with creatively by tons of other authors/songwriters. He gets props for being able to reach a lot of people through music, but I feel that it's sad that people have to realize such basic and obvious things from this guy.

An alarmingly large percent of Bob's fans are kids who got stoned, realized that reggae is amazing to listen to while stoned (mainly cause a lot of it is ABOUT getting stoned), and then noticed this guy was saying things which are true. WOW, HE'S THE CRAZIEST ZANIEST WISEDEST PROPHET EVER!! The fact is, people talk and deal about these things every day, and people are just too numbskulled to notice them unless they're stoned. Beer,

yeah, thats what a lot of people seem to think. ive heard about as many people say that exact same shit as ive heard "no woman, no cry". the problem isnt the kids who listen to marley because it sounds good when theyre stoned, its the kids like you who think you have to have some sort of right of passage or something to be able to listen to him without being a poser. i grew up on bob marley. since the day i was born i was hearing bob. and i smoked weed long before i ever really started to appreciate it. i always liked it, but i never thought too much of it because it was the shit my parents listened to and none of my friends were into it or something. but that doesnt really give me more of a right to listen to it than any other kid. i agree, a lot of kids listen to it cus they heard it was cool or because it advocates smoking weed.... so what. and the fact that his ideas are so simple is what makes the world so fuckin sad, and one of the things that makes him so fuckin sic. not many people knew what was going on back then. and they still dont. most people in america, whether they feel his music or not, still have no fuckin clue about what hes saying. or they just dont give a fuck. how many of you actually live by these "simple" ideals??? i bet barely any of you. its one thing to believe something, its another thing to act on it. anyway, all his albums are good. if youre sic of legend (which is a definite possibility unless youve had your head in the sand the last 30 years), theres plenty of other good shit: bustin out of trenchtown, rastaman vibration, catch a fire, kaya, millions of compilation albums that are dope..... if you get tired of one thing just rock some shit form a different era for a while, then when you havent heard legend or natural mystic for a long time, itll sound dope as fuck again.

(that may sound like im snapping or being a dick but its not really intentional. no disrespect intended.)

whoever wanted to read the "high times" article....

i have it but im not going to type it all out for you. basically (very basically) it goes like this:

bob marley and tosh (mainly) were saying a lot of stuff the CIA wasnt likin. they probably wouldnt of cared if they didnt become international superstars, but since they were, the whole world was listening to what they were saying. so, before the "one love" peace concert in jamaica (i think it was a day or two before) an assassin went into bobs place and unloaded on him. his friend got shot a couple times and bobs stomach got grazed and he got one in the arm. regardless, he was still going to play the concert. so he went to an undisclosed location utnil the concert to be safe. someone sent him an anonymous gift before the concert; a pair of boots to wear during the concert. when he stuck his foot in the boot he punctured his big toe. when he looked to see what cut his toe, he found a piece of metal lodged in the front of his boot. i guess he didnt think anything of it and went and did the concert. do you get the idea now?.... he had had a lot of heat on him from the CIA. while the elections were going on in jamaica, he was told he would be killed if he came back to jamaica before the they were over. anyway, you can decide if you think that toe prick may have had anything to do with his cancer....

avils, im about to check my mail.

ps. if you dont want to get sick of bob, get some other good reggae. dennis brown, steel pulse, peter tosh, barrington levy, the bantons, burning spear, augustus pablo, gregory isaacs, black uhuru, ziggy and some of his other kids' albums are good, gladiators, humble soul, jimmy cliff, lee perry..... theres a few to check out.
