i did check sheldon and it appears the answer is yes you can integrate a 9/10 speed derailleur into an otherwise 8 speed group. i was wondering if anyone could confirm.

i cant vouch for the moots, but the surly pugsley has at least a 120 front fork. otherwise anyone wanna take a stab at my campy question? can i put a 9 or 10 speed derailleur on a bike with 8 speed controls and cassette and shift like it was an 8?

i had recently bought some vertical wall hooks to get a coupla my bikes off the ground at the apt. last night im chillin and hear a pretty big crash in the other room. my cats are known to knock bikes over so i go rushing in ready to give em hell and see that my paramount has just done a nose dive after the anchors failed in one of the hooks. definitely gonna need a rear der adjust and maybe a fork true. great way to end an evening.

acer, a track bike has a higher BB and generally shorter cranks. these two things conspire to effectively raise your seat height relative to the bars. so you should be in a more aggressive position when in the drops compared to a road bike.

according to the internet bianchi has sent around 100 'super pistas' to the states. it is indeed the european market aluminum pista, the D2 AL, but marked super pista.

getting my pista concept took a year from the time it was ordered. then the integrated aluminum seat collar cracked, boneheaded design. the welds definitely arent as well treated here as on the concept. old italian hands arent as nimble as young chinese ones i guess. and i really liked the concepts droupouts too (see the cinelli/mash frames). but im not going to complain too much. the toptube profile starts hexagonal and ends ovalized. prolly my favorite part of the super pista.

rode a digital DA dressed tarmac SL3 this afternoon. the bike does not give at all underneath you, which i suppose might be tempered by the fact that i generally ride steel. haha tempered, get it. and as far as the shifting goes, i rode the cable actuated group too and over all shimano stepped it up with the 7900. almost has that campagnolo crunch.

most tires that cost more than $30 each have some kind of flat protection. that protection has nothing to do with the kind of bead though. the bead is the outter edge of the tire that locks into the rim. a kevlar bead is often used on folding tires because kevlar is strong but pliable, unlike wire bead which cannot fold. some companies also use kevlar in their flat protection such as continental in their gatorskin model.

fuck a pump (on rides), get some CO2. they are free if you want them to be. if you get my meaning. ;)

those rims look amazing rubbish. i have been looking for something like that for ages. to the kid with the slipping drivetrain - sounds like your cog/lockring is loose. when you go hard it is the cog tightening up. when you stop it is the cog coming loose.

the tubes have to be mitred to fit around one another. bottom brackets are often part of the lugset if you are going to go lugged. a steel bike will not be terribly heavy if you are working with a proper tubeset. if you work around steel then i imagine someone knows about reynolds and columbus. you should be able to order a tubeset through the distributor. i dunno how frankenstein you are gonna go.

heres how i was taught to work on pedals in a stand. ON: put the wrench on the pedal. back pedal the bike. pedal goes on. OFF: put the wrench on the pedal. pedal forward. pedal comes off. also, critical mass last night was awfully rowdy and the weather was awesome. people were out for blood. at least one guy got himself jumped. didnt hang around too long after that.

did a couple quick out and backs yesterday (an hour each w/ stops). first in street clothes through the bike path. prolly 15 miles. then turned around in kit and rode the local club ride drag. another 20 or so. overpasses being the only things resembling hills. nothing spectacular.
