Airless tires (and by airless I'm guessing you mean solid rubber) are total shit. They only come on cheap bikes, but are none the less sometimes touted as being "better" than regular air tires. They're bad for you wheels and bike as they provide a LOT less cushioning compared to air; They're bad for YOU because they're much harder to push because of increased rolling resistance, and again less cushioning. Stay away from them.

Did a really great century on the old Fuji today. 50 miles of flats and great rolling hills through farm country. Didn't plan so hot for nutrition and the last 20 or so were TORTURE. Still a great ride though. Nothing like 80's japanese steel to zip you around.

anyone here have any experience with ceramic bearings? I would never need such a thing but I'm curious as to the differences...

As far as the USCF is concerned, cat 4. With what they're doing now in Colorado Springs, I'm a Dev/"C". I'm pretty new to actual racing at the drome.

Track bikes have STEEP geometry, and very tiny amounts of rake. Those bikes have more rake than my geared road bike, and those bikes all have very shallow angles on all of the tubes. They're obviously made for hipster types that want a "track" bike for screwing around on, but never to actually be used on a track or raced legitimately. It seems like more and more of these bikes are being taken in the direction of "grown-up" bmx type bikes...riser bars and all that shit. No hate or anything Blaise, just saying. I fucking hate riser/flat bars on track bikes. Bullhorns or track drops only.

I'm sort of looking for something in between. Clincher, definitely not tubular. Something that could be taken to the track and not immedietely smoldered, but also is down for streetability. I suppose I'm asking for the best of both worlds; Light and not as heavy as the Deep V's, but still tough enough to thrash on. I've been looking at Mavic Ellipses. I just don't want something that is going to be completely unusuable at the track.

Good alleycat (I guess you could call it that. more like impromptu race, but whatever) yesterday. Highlights include: -Dude eating it hard on concrete in the dash to the bikes, rode the whole thing anyway bleeding all over everything. -Some guy on a 29'er mountain bike who managed to beat several hipster track bike dudes by 5 mins or so. Props to mountain bike guy. -Some guy getting arrested for blowing a light or god knows what about 1000 feet from the finish, going to jail because he had a warrant in Utah. -Big glasses of whiskey at one of the checkpoints. Ick. Big ups to el cheapo races. Someone recommend me a good online place for track wheelsets in the sub $500 dollar range. Nothing great, but no ebay crap either.
