  1. yeah, ebay has good things and bad things...pretty much the story of underground music meeting the internet. i love digging and picking up vinyl at shows but sometimes a band or a pressing falls through the cracks and ebay is the only way to go. i just picked up jandeks fourth lp for my brother which i dont think i would have ever found otherwise.....those are the times it definitely comes in handy. on the other hand you have the $40 pelican records and crap like that....

  2. i like christmas just because i get time off of work, get to see my family (no extended though - fuck being around people just because you are related to them. makes me want to kill myself.) and new years is right around the corner. i couldnt care less about why christmas exists or buying and receiving loads of gifts.

i guess im 50/50. fuck christmas for what it is but i like it because i get to take a much needed break from life for a week.

  3. o RRY now? And it turns out Cristal wasn't so expensive. My bill for 6bottles was $600.02 thats of course with shipping and handling

fyi - a bottle of cristal is at least $250 to $300 bucks. either you bought the wrong thing or you really suck at lying on the internet.

  4. BTW, Don Perignon & any form of Taittinger > crystal

finally someone who gets it. cristal is good and all but there are a lot of other champagnes out there that are just as good or better and many times, less expensive. cristal is more of a luxury brand than an actual wine at this point. its absurd.

ps - i had the fortune of being able to drink a bottle of 1985 comte de champagne. it was amazing.

  5. i was going through my records earlier today and though i would take some pictures and try my hand at making a decent contribution to the ounce (its been a while). packaging is getting more and more out of hand these days so this kind of functions as a design/art/music thread all in one...maybe it can even lead to some trades amongst the collectors on here.

here is one from the band i cant shut up about....baroness. i dig this one because of the inks they used and the stock of the jacket. its a super nice sleeve for a super awesome record.

    Picture237.jpg

here is another super nice jacket for the latest torch 10 inch. on the flip of this is there is a painting of the band along with an insert that holds a cd of the album. john dyer is killing it these days.

    Picture241.jpg

here is a sunn/boris album. unreal packaging for a 3 disk set. apparently the white vinyl has be dispersed to record stores and its bumming out the collector nerds because they cant complete their collections. seriously...doom fans out-nerd kids who play magic the gathering.

    Picture242.jpg

this is the inside of the jacket. 10 or 12 pages of photos along with an explanation of the albums concept.

    Picture243.jpg

this is a mono album that came out recently. i geeked out on the three colors of vinyl going from light to dark. the jacket is nice as well.

    Picture244.jpg

the new neurosis. this is a beast of an album both visually and musically. they really, really outdid themselves.

    Picture245.jpg

front of the album and the colored vinyl. im way down with the coloring on the record on the left.

    Picture246.jpg

nothing really special about this one...i just really love the stories on the back of jazz albums. ps - vinyl is the only way to listen to jazz.

    Picture249.jpg

russian circles album. cool little package and an amazing record if you are into post rock.

    Picture240.jpg

another baroness record...this one is clear with a b-side etching by john dyer. fucking awesome. i cant wait to get the rise album in the mail.

    Picture248.jpg

before every record had some kind of thing making it unique there was the dead kennedys 7 inch with the arm band. this is still one of my favorites.

    Picture247.jpg

i really like this record and its jacket. the mc5 were badasses.

thats all for right now. if people are actually into this and posting up their stuff ill make another contribution down the road.

  6. This movie and There Will be Blood are my two currently can't-wait-to-watch films. They both look insanely good.

YES! I saw the trailer for there will be blood when i went to see no country for old men (awesome movie)...when the trailer ended there was this "holy shit" kind of feeling in the theater and dead silence. i cant imagine how good that movie is going to be.

in other movie news i watched death proof again last night while destroying a bottle of vox. it was really fucking fun.

  7. funny, my girlfriend and i had a conversation about her last night at dinner regarding the article above.

her - "did you hear about amy winehouse?"

me - "did she die? i hope so."

her - "no, she showed up drunk at a concert and a bunch of people walked out."

me - "bummer, she should o.d. so i can stop hearing about her. she isnt even that talented"

    her - "shes a mess."

    it was a good talk.

  8. man, you just keep sucking more and more.

did you and dirty habtz form some sort of 'mega herb' pact?

can we rewind everything to 03 please?

did i do something to make you think i care or are you just throwing in your 2 cents for the sake of keeping up appearances? actually, i dont even care about that....continue on big time.

  9. sometimes i think about 2 things i hate and wonder which which is shittier, gayer, makes me want to shoot myself, etc. this thread is for those things. tonights fight card is as follows....

round 1 - soulja boy vs. singers who think theyre gangsters

round 2 - atreyu vs. underoath vs. hopesfall

round 3 - legal walls vs. getting hit in the face with turd

you dont see me for a month and then i come with an amazing contribution like this...i know....awesome. happy friday. my weekend is going to own everything, how about yours?

  10. ...this shit is still just as amazing as the first time i heard it. its rare that i can listen to a band for hours like i just got turned on to it but it just doesnt stop. awesome..

in other news, i am off to florida to listen to music for 3 days, drink gallons of beer and generally have a good time with good friends. photo thread in the next few weeks is a possibility.

  11. alright...so, youve given me a definition of terrorism written by a devout (clearly american) muslim and a slide show on three prominent scholars from the era of the islamic empire. i dont really know what you want me to do with this or how exactly you thought this would act as a rebuttal.

look, the point i am making here is that the people whom america calls "terrorists" are people fighting in the name of their religion and their beliefs. am i sympathetic? not in the least, but im able to see the origins of this situation and understand the fact these people are not "haters of freedom" as our country would like us to believe (though women under their rule would probably argue that point). in a world where religion is constantly diluted to adhere to an evolving societies perception of what is acceptable behavior, these "extremists" stand their ground. part of me actually has a minute dash of respect (the utter disgust outweighs it, believe me) for the talibans, the warren jeffs and the pat robertsons of the world. i am certainly not the authority on this but my perception is that those called extremists are those adhering to the religion in the way it was originally taught. those labeling them as extremists or fundamentalists or what have you, are simply attempting to distance themselves from socially unacceptable aspects of their religious foundation in order to remain mainstream.

islam in america is much different than islam in the middle east. this draws parallels to the old testament being replaced by the new testament, the LDS church renouncing polygamy (a teaching issued directly from god, via joseph smith) unitarian churches, etc. i am not opposed to these changes by any means, however, it makes me wonder how committed these people are to the word of their god. how can gods direct orders, issued many centuries ago, evolve, hand in hand, with our culture? to me, an outsider untainted by religious fervor, it seems to mimic our political system. adjust your values just enough to survive.

ive gotten longwinded trying to lead up to this but my point is that the muslims you are trying to dismiss are the muslims who are literally adhering to the teachings of their prophet. you can tell me that things are taken out of context, poorly interpreted, molded to an agenda...i just dont believe it. your religion, like all other religions, is simply keeping up with the times, attempting to retain its prominence and power in an age where understanding about the lives we lead is becoming more abundant. essentially, "extremists" today are revealing the roots of the worlds major religions. in turn, the religious powers structure is widening the gap between themselves and these "extremists", and in doing so, chipping away their religions foundation.

how can anyone not see how utterly human this process is?

  12. i mean, i see what youre saying, but at the same time the dust from the danish cartoon of mohammad hasnt even settled yet. i guess points 2 and 3 for me would be that someone already did this 2 years ago and 4 years before that a group of muslims flew planes into building to punish the infidels and claim their 72 virgins in heaven. i think that was kind of the pinnacle of clouded views about the world and their gods wishes.

  13. The Battle of Badr

    The Battle of Uhud

    Battle of the Trench

    The Arab Conquests

    Conquest of Palestine and Syria

    Conquest of Iraq

    Conquest of Egypt

im failing to see a clear distinction between "the acts that raised the islamic empire to religious and worldly greatness" and "terrorism" - which, these days, is simply a subjective term for those fighting against the american empire. fill me in here.

  14. just from reading the article this guy sounds less like someone making a valid comment and more of an inflammatory idiot. mohammed as a dog? jesus as a pedophile? come the fuck on here....if youre going to attack religion maybe try and add a dash of intelligence in with it? i mean youre only trying to parody the strongest force that exists on our planet.

seriously....take a break from the hash, retard.

  15. yes that's true, ive never seen a poor atheist.... their lives are easy and dont need to worry for people suffering in other countries, sucking the opportunity titty and not sharing.

if there is one thing (aside from the fact i use my brain) thats kept me away from religion its the utter lack of compassion towards others by people of faith. you think atheists do not care about others? who do you see voting to restrict peoples basic human rights based on religious morals? who do you see covering their women in burka and murdering them for "crimes" that are completely acceptable for males of the same religion to commit? who is killing one another on a daily basis based on differing views of god and what he has bestowed on his chosen people? i am not saying that all evils in the world come from religion but to say that only people of faith care and are compassionate is utterly laughable to anyone that doesnt have their head buried in scripture. atheists are not privileged people who ignore others and live a life of priveliage. we are simply people who have chosen to take responsibility for the good and bad in our lives, analyze the world instead of chalking it all up to "god" in order to better our situation and generally lack the cowardice and ignorance to follow the words of nonsensical fairy tales and the leaders who profit from them.

that was much more than you deserve as youve proven yourself to be an inarticulate moron but i felt obligated to respond for anyone else who may be reading.
