TheoHuxtable..
Yeah the majority here are Raiders fans. Some are Chargers fans, and I think only a very small percentage cheer for St. Louis given its distance. The Houston Texans could've been the L.A. team. L.A. & Houston were battling over the new expansion team in '99. Now they say we might get a team by 2012 and have plans drawn up for an arena in a suburb of L.A. L.A. is the second biggest media market in the US and it is ridiculous we don't have an NFL team. We got USC football though. And they've been a powerhouse for much of this decade. T.T Boy
most canadian cities cant handle two pro sports teams. mtl lost the expos, winnie lost the jets, etc... vancouver has a decent amount of people to support a second franchise but the yuppies price everything out. all the yaletown people eating sushi and drinking $9.00 draft at gm place make it impossible for the legit fans to go to games. a lot of people hate on canucks fans, but if you have lived in the city you see who the real fans are vs. who can afford to go to the games. vancouver couldnt ever support a baseball team, nor another basketball team. they do however have the whitecaps. hate all you want on soccer, but legit soccer fans know whats up. pro sports is fucked up. there are 3 nhl teams in CALIFORNIA and 2 in florida but the nhl is fighting tooth and nail to not move phoenix to canada. and phoenix is a dying franchise. sorry but california and arizona and florida people dont grow up on hockey the way we do. the fact atlanta has a hockey team and winnipeg does not is really fucked up. ...HSAMSnoytiC
for the nhl they really need to know when yer beat and pull the fuck out. it happens. take a page from the Nba who might be to quick on it but at least they move. rather than continuing to lose $O MILLION DOLLARS a year. as far as vancouver not being able to support an Nba team i completely disagree. that team would still be here and thriving had we had ownership from the get go that nknew anythingg about basketball and didnt rely on the league appointing management along with everything else. your fooling yourself if you beleive this city didnt embrace that team from the SECOND we wewre awarded it. and the Nba is so smart at marketing there produt and develepoing grass roots programs amidst each city its in vancouver by now would have huge happenings in the metro area geared towards the grizzlies. sports radio is at an all time HIGH in this city with afternoon ratings higher than any other radio station. that equals POWER. this city did handle an NBA franchise and had we not been raped by ownership and cursed with the worst managment in professional sports history wed be alive and well in the north west. Nba marketing is like no other besides the NFL. to this day you STILL see grizzlie gear here and there, why? because the league has mandates on advertising/marketing/merchandising among its teams. think about the onslaught of advertising and promotions we seen around vancouver for the grizzlies when they were here. the vancouver canucks dont have a FIFTH of that going for them, mostly because they dont need it but the point is thats all league standars. if you think vancouver couldnt handle a team your absolutley fooling yourself. the only thing going against it is the failure that already occured, and that was NOT do to the fans. another atrocious instance was the shaquil oneal rule that expansion teams could not draw first in the lottery so as new franchises couldnt get to good to quick. a rule that had never been put into place until then. there was an ugly ammount of twilight zone like occurances that put an end to the nba in vancouver and its a real fucking shame. not to mention ticketing for Nba games is dirt cheap. you could go to a grizzlies game if you wanted to sit up top for like 14 bucks, an absolute fantastic alternative to the family of four wanting a fun night out. vancouver, the grid=ffiths family and the nba botched this huge. it was pitiful and inexcusable and not only left an embarresment on the league but its left ireversable scars on our city FOREVER reguardiung professional sports. absolutely DISGUSTING.
