Theo Huxtable.
whoever wins the market on porn will win altogether. this is what happened between vhs and sony's betamax. i think it's stupid that there had to be two different formats and for this "war" to happen with certain studios siding with particular formats. some side with both. hurts the consumer because he'll be missing out on movies if he invests in one format but not the other. i mainly buy dvd's though. cheaper, and the ps3 does a good job of upscaling dvd's to 1080p. i only get blu-ray discs if the visuals are a major focal point of the movie, i.e.; planet earth, curse of the golden flower, deja vu... DETO
i buy new releases on blu if they are available. if they are not or hd exclusive (Universal titles) i just buy them on sd dvd because like Theo said, the ps3 does a damn good job of upscailing. DETO
about a month ago i went format neutral and still prefer blu by far.
Theo Huxtable.
i think you go overboard with that blu-ray thing. like buying wack movies just because it's on blu-ray. what was that movie you bought, wild hogs? my thing with the ps3 is to only buy dvd's since it's $10 cheaper than blu-ray for the exact same movie. i only get blu-ray if the visuals are the major focal point of the movie... example; blue planet, crank, curse of the golden flower, etc. i won't buy old movies on blu-ray because the up-conversion usually isn't very good and still looks a bit grainy. instead of seeing a grainy picture of a grainy film, you're seeing a clear picture of a grainy film. example; terminator 2 on blu-ray doesn't look much better than terminator 2 on dvd (i watched both). DETO
fuck, wild hogs, hairspray, the die hard collection... if it's on blu ray, chances are, i'm getting it. like i bought hot rod on hd, why? i dunno. i'm sure the sd version would have looked almost equal being upscaled by either my ps3 or hda30 and i would have saved a few bucks. i can't wait till tuesday, superbad on bd (and i'll get the theatrical cut on 1 disc sd dvd) and Pirates 3. Oceans 12 looked fucking horrible on bd, 11 and 13 looked great but 12 looked ike a fucking vhs transfer. what the fuck warner bros!? Theo Huxtable.
so you're basically done with dvd's?
DETO
no, because i still love tv on dvd, and a lot of shows are not being released on high def yet. as well as other movies/shows/sports...but if it's offered on a hd format, i'll pick it up on hd, if it's offered on hd and bd, i choose bd. fermentor666
The one reason to go Blu-Ray or HD-DVD now is the release of Bladerunner: The Final Cut in December. The only reason. And it might be the one that makes me go high-def. Anyone know anything about the new laser-HDTVs? I heard mention of them, and when they come out it'll probably mean a price-drop in the plasma and LCD HDTVs, which might make them affordable for me. DETO
the 5 disc bd version of Bladerunner is gonna be fucking awesome.
Theo Huxtable.
i need to get that bladerunner on blu-ray i got the director's cut on dvd and that's only because it's the only version out there. weren't there like a grip of "cuts" made for bladerunner? i heard on the 5 disc set, it will feature all cuts including the original theatrical version bladerunner, which would be the first time the theatrical version was released outside of theaters. all i know about laser tv's is that they're cheaper to make than plasmas and lcd's, and it produces a clearer picture. those two factors alone should render plasmas/lcd obsolete.
