rdf: i meant what brand of router. linksys, etc....

and what type?

i run a wrt54g v3 and i run alchemy 6.0 on it.

ok, gentlement i mentioned this earlier.

i'm going to start building htpc's (home theater pc's)

using micro atx cases/boards.

here's the problem: not alot of the tv cards are slimline.

they're usually pretty big pci cards. so, what should i use?

my tv wonder pro is small, but it's not great quality.

another thing: what OS? linux would be the best bet,

but usability is another thing. gotta be simple and in a

good price range.

the cases cost anywhere from $25 to $350 (the expensive cases have lcd screens on

the case. touchscreen on some)

the power supplies are around $25-$30 for a 200 watt

processors: $40 and up

soundcard:$25 and up (i'd want to go with a nice card. maybe that new x-fi $70)

motherboards range in price about $70 or so would be a good deal for a nice mobo.

so, we're looking at around $300 or so. maybe $450 if i wanted something really nice.

the sale price would have to be something reasonable, but fair (to me). these aren't going to be built for poor folks. i'm looking at marketing to the new wealth tech savy gen.

micro atx's usually only have a couple or three pci slots and one agp...i can find a nice video card (radeon 9250 and above on ebay) as these won't be gaming computers. i really don't have to incorporate anything too big and expensive.

just gotta do it right and stay in a nice price range for myself.

any suggestions? advice? words of wit? a beaver or midget joke?

Hmmmm....BSD running Wmaker...good call, nice.

I solved my cooling problem with a small house fan blowing directly onto the mobo and HD array ;-).

Laugh all you want, but it works.

for $10 you can get a nice antec fan with speed control.

maybe think about cutting a blowhole and mounting a fan to exhaust the heat

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

Why bother? This was free, and it probably does a better job of keeping things cool than most other solutions.

Mostly, it's for the HD's at this point...there's a CPU fan running as well, that seems to do what it's supposed to do well enough.

Re: «<< 12Oz Computer Tech Support >>>

Well. the case I have has 7 3.5" bays, so I just left one bay open between each drive to get some circulation going on...but, the puny fan in there doesn't move enough air.

I have this monster 140mm fan, but it's a two-wire job, and the board requires three-wire fans.

I'm making it work...plus, it's hot, and it's blowing air at ME, too...

ok, my review on this nvidia geforce fx 5500 agp card......

it's "ok". some games work better, some don't.

gotta readjust prey now because it's all jittery.

second sight is awesome, second life is awesome.

prey is fucking jittery. dammit. the two games i have that suck

are great and the one game that i have that rocks is jittery. fuck.
