The problem with the below issue is, where do we draw the line? It's easy to mention fighting terrorist communication and news, but who distinguishes between real news and that? So many issues...I felt this had a place here...

Rumsfeld Laments Global Reach of War News

By David B. Caruso / Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA - One of the military's new wartime challenges is dealing with global media that can instantly spread around the world information that may be false or damaging to U.S. interests, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Wednesday.

The United States needs to respond to anti-American messages with greater agility and speed if it is to win the ideological struggle with Islamic extremists, Rumsfeld said in a speech to members of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia.

"We'll need to develop considerably more sophisticated ways of using these new means of communication that are now available to reach the many and diverse audiences," he said.

Rumsfeld didn't delve deeply into specifics in his brief talk with members of the civic group. But in the recent past, news outlets have broadcast messages from terrorist groups, or reported stories that have fueled rage against Americans in the Muslim world.

It's funny.... Any BS psyop propaganda they are trying to develop is not going to change the reality on the ground. It's pretty well proven that all this disinformation affects americans more than anyone else. They may be able to hold onto support here in the US by controlling the media, but they are not going to change the minds of the greater muslim world by trying to tell them things they know personally not to be true.

We are in an age of ubiquitous computing, cell phones, computers and the like, and unlimited, instantaneous communication. If they are not going to get their information from one source, they will get it from another. I mean just look at how we are getting information on Zarqawi, from one of their message boards.

Who's Ron Paul?

ron paul is a true conservative. he is famous for his libertarian presidential run in the 80's. he has voted against virtually every power boost to the federal government. he is one of the only 100% no compromise constitution upholder in congress. hes 100% pro gun. hes 100% limiting federal power. you guys might like some of what he has to say, but will most likely hate most of it. sorta like the wacky alex jones, you might be all about his anti bush stuff, but would cringe at him supporting michael peroutka for president last year, his abortion stance is 110% pro life, and 100% for closed borders. same with ron paul, you might like his anti patriot act stance, but might hate stance on social issues. by the way hes a republican, one of the "real" ones left.

I like this guy alot more than the so called conservatives in power right now.

But you are right... he is hit or miss with me.

I was enjoying reading about his take on the federal reserve and how since our currency is no longer backed by anything, the value of it is a direct reflection of the effectiveness of our economic policy. Which the money is saying is quite bad these days.

...no one seemed to mention this...but that draft that is quoted at the beginning of the thread is from a now defunct proposal from the justice department in 2003...it was met by so much criticism thta it was basicaly scrapped...currently congress is working on amending the patriot act 2001 because some of the provisions have 'sunset' clauses that end the power...there is a push by the 'bushites' to extend or make these provisions permanent while also adding new measures...it has been said that there is a lot more opposition in congress however due to the fact that no one's really scared anymore and there has been little evidence that the patriot act has actually done anything...no one really knows though becasue the meetings are completely closed doors...
