  1. By the way, great thread Mercer.

Did not read the whole thing yet, but already found some useful thoughts.

Thanks for the effort and the readiness to help others.

I guess this is not an active debate right now,

but if people are having trouble deciding whether to buy a Canon or Nikon DSLR,

I found some really thorough and intelligent reviews / comparisons of different models on that site.

    Are there people on here owning / shooting a Fuji X-Pro1 / X100 / X-E1 ?

  2. An AE-1 would be the last film slr I'd want to shoot. They're the most prone to break. Look for any olympus om, nikon fe's or fm's. (electronic, mechanical) Minolta x700's, pentax k1000's. Anything but an ae-1. The lenses on all these other cameras are better too.

This is over thirty years old, shot god knows how many rolls of film, is still in use,

and I never had any issues other than replacing batteries or light seals.

I also shot a bit with friends' Pentax k1000 (really liked it, though it feels a bit small),

Nikon FM2 (loved it), and an Olympus I don't remember (also very nice).

My point is that they all make good cameras. Nikon having the best optics, in general,

but saying that "the lenses on all these other cameras are better (than Canon)" is bullshit.

The 50/1.4 shown above is an awesome lens, for example, read some reviews.

I bought that, used, with warranty, in mint condition, for $45 (!) some years ago.

I'm biased, as I shot mostly Canon the last 10 years,

If I had been given a Nikon then that would have been the path, and I would have liked that too.

The thing is, if you want to buy an analogue 35mm now, Canon is a really good option,

the quality is great, and there are still millions of bodies and lenses out there -

    which means low prices.

  3. he's mentioned before he knows someone who does repairs...

I don't know where you are, but over here you'd get like two AE-1 bodies in good condition

(either eBay or local stores) for the money it'd take to repair the old one.

doodle - good to hear things went well. keep going!

  4. @ smichov im feeling your spin on the "our city our trains" shirts i would defiantly wanna see some more post from you my man

    +1 !

I know this thread is dead (well the whole 'untitled' section here is pretty dead),

but I do hope this will change soon once 12oz gets it's issues sorted and all.

There are so many talented people here!
