  1. yeah, calipers against some wet ass rims probably would have done me a lot of good...

if any of you ride in traffic regularly, you realize it's not if you get hit, it's when. all the disc brakes and safety vests you wear aren't going to protect you from a guy on his cell phone while his 3 kids scream in the back seat.

  2. I remember at Bike Central there was that frame all built up and it was similar weight to the shop owners full NJS Nagasawa track bike, maybe a little more. I can't remember what wheelset was on there though. They're not made for weight but aerodynamics, obviously. Frame and fork go for just under $4,000...

  3. ^ ^ ^ i've been pretty lucky in that regard. she's down to pay for any damages as well. i had a mechanic buddy true up the wheel in about 5 minutes, re-centered the axle in the dropout as things got knocked off a little, and everything seemed fine after that. almost every credible shop is closed for holidays right now, though. reynolds 520 and velocity fusions are no joke when it comes to toughness.

on a positive note, some used dura ace track cranks came in the mail today, got them for a steal :)

  4. how about just dont assume and dont ride around w/ some stupid quicksilver sequence palying in your brain. i swear, im so over watching people buck their hips and be on any type of bicycle at all. fuck it, fuck yall. peace

whatever hesh, you're getting the wrong idea. i ride defensively as hell. sometimes you can't escape the area of an oncoming car and you of all people should know that, especially seeing as how fast a car can accelerate from stop vs. how fast a bike can. i don't "buck" my hips when i ride and my seatpost is fitted correctly.

  5. i like how some people seem to think you either always have to drink while playing beer pong, or always have to drink while chilling.

srsly, you can do them both. beer pong is fun as hell every now and than.

but yeah, playing darts does beat it, along with pool, hold em (if you can manage to actually win while drinking), pinball and table shuffleboard (simple as hell; a real rarity these days). if you manage to make a drinking game out of darts, that gets you the most trashed out of all.

  6. well joker, to put it in a portlander's perspective, i was coming down ankeny and crossing sandy. not the greatest intersection... i saw the driver, made the assumption that they saw me as they had just stopped at a stop sign, than the lady accelerated right out of the sign and into me... a buddy of mine got hit on the park blocks the other day too.

  7. got hit by a car last night coming again. it didn't really faze me this time: no injuries, bike is still ridable. the rear triangle "could" be knocked out of alignment and the rear wheel "may" need rebuilding, no apparent cracks or grinding noises though. immediately after getting knocked down i got up and scoped the license plate #, but the lady stopped and we exchanged info.

  8. you and i my friend need to have a conversation which this thing cannot support,

hit my up on aim sometime?

let me take you up on that after i finish reading the birth of tragedy by nietzsche ;)

  9. That is the least of the interesting things about the WWE.

Learn about the greek play and then go watch WWE again.

What specifically about greek plays? The tragedies or the comedies? Catharsis, Dionysian vs. Apollonian features or what?

My beater for everything else / no worries locking up. Working on slowly upgrading this one... Dura Ace crankset is on the way, trying to find a 10cm 3T Mutant stem, Thomson or other 2 bolt seatpost in the future, and eventually replace the frame for the Kilo TT Pro thats coming out in May (same everything as my KHS but the tubing will be Platinum OX).

  11. What is the point of the super skinny hard seats that everyone seems to be riding on? They are really, REALLY fucking uncomfortable to me. I replaced my stock seat with a cheap seat from a local shop that has a good amount of padding. It's not a cruiser seat or anything. But anyway, my question was what's the reason behind riding on a seat like that. Especially if you're doing miles and miles. Please enlighten me.

well, first of all, we really have no idea what kind of "super skinny hard seat" you're talking about. at the hardest end of the scale is the plastic bmx seats of the 80's / 90's. very few people ride these, they're hard as hell, but i've known one or two people to like the feel of stripped down plastic. than there's what could be considered "hard" by some people (selle italia turbo, fizik arione, flite, etc.). when you're on a bike pedaling for a long time, you need support and not so much cushion, especially when you're riding in a more aggressive position. in fact, if i ride and overly cushy saddle i get MORE uncomfortable than if i ride a firm one. also, upper end lightweight saddles are going to be made with the expectation that the buyer is probably going to be wearing padded cycling shorts, in some cases.

plus most of the time you are not on the seat anyways if you are racing.

not necessarily. it all depends on what kind of racing and what terrain. gotta stay in the saddle to spin those higher RPMs effectively.

yo and whoiseuth, there's a deal for two spin trispokes on ebay right now going... 650 though. that's the problem... very hard to find them in 700c.

  12. actually, getting on it....you guys are right. My seat is to low (like I said, noob status)

when the pedal is at its lowest point my knees is really bent, not slight like some internet sites say.

also i can stand on the balls or almost my whole foot while on the seat....

but I like that kind of safety but I guess i am only hurting myself...i might raise it up but this is how i am comfortable

    :(

    dont judge me

the thing is, you may be comfortable because you have the safety of being able to put your foot down, but if you do absolutely any type of real riding on your bike at all with the seat too low, especially considering you're going brakeless, you'll RIP through your knees like no other. when you're running brakeless on the street, you have to be very conscious of good bike fit because if your fit is fucked up, it can be really hard on your legs. and the most important part of this equation is proper saddle height, and fore/aft position.

  13. thats a nice little track machine you got. i've got respect for anyone that actually uses the drop part of b123's on the street. no love for the slow pokes!

p.s. some white tape/grips would look great too.

  14. alright...noob status here so go easy

I got a Mercier Kilo TT

I want to upgrade to make this thing sweet as hell

    any opinions

I just got some bullhorn handle bars for this thing, cause I really dont use the drops.

Looking for a new cog...(thanks shai)

    any other suggestions?

hate to be the dick but someone's gotta do it. either your seats too low or your frame is way too big for you. when the seat is borderline resting on the top tube, this indicates bad fit. also, if you want to be more upright, get riser bars.

  15. yep. that's called "artistic cycling", a small, strange talent act that survives in circuses and who knows where else. they use a 1 to 1 ratio to keep all that control. if you rode one of those bikes it'd probably be pretty hard and annoying to get it above 10mph. and yeah, it requires a shitload of balance and talent but... kinda bores me after awhile.

craziest traffic evading video i've seen yet. first minute is eh, the rest of it is gold. i may get hesh's wrath for this one...

anyone spoiling themselves with some bike gifts this xmas? i'm trying to get a used dura crankset for my rain bike if all goes through, only because what the seller is asking seems like a pretty damn good deal. that and a 3t mutant stem hopefully...

joker, you got some balls. the rain has been getting prety intense with no end in sight...
