    I am first generation born in the good ol US of A 

     

    My parents came to this country illegally in the late 70's and they weren't eligible for residency until the 90's mom became a citizen in the late 90's dad became a citizien in the 2000's both applied at the same time and it still took forever.

     

    Everyone comments on immigration as if they know the laws. I grew up in this and I still dont fully understand it.

     

    My right wing friends say their family came to this country the legal way through ellis island at that time there was no such thing as illegal immigration. They took your name down and welcome to america that all changed when chinese immigrants started coming over

     

    My liberal friends make it seem like deportation just started happening.  For much of the 80's my parents didnt go out much because INS were raiding factories and picking people up at bus stops. Its nothing new.

    When I was in college we had a gallery and there was photogs that came down from all over the country. At the time I was working for the photo department and I had to help pack up some of the photos.

     

    My boss was packing a photo of two big dudes (bears) laying in bed with each other and I remember saying man this looks familiar. My boss turned and looked at me and said WTF? I dont want to know

     

    It turned out it was a photo from a series that @-Rage-took and posted here in the photo thread. I explained to my boss and the whole deal about 12oz and this dude's awesome photos and he was like he was here this Saturday for the gallery. I was pretty pissed I heard about it after the fact.

    Back in the oontz and Flickr days I use to live on the fuckin computer. I honestly couldn’t wait to get home from school and hop on to upload my flicks to my photobucket account. So that I could post them here. 

     

    I was in nyc for the second time last October and we had just ate and I was tired as fuck from traveling and walking around all day. At the time I had never seen the Apple billboard in Chinatown that Nekst rocked a few times and as we turned the corner I saw it. 

     

    Man I was excited like a kid in a candy store. My girl knows about 12oz but doesn’t really understand it. So she didn’t get why I would be so thrilled to see a building in Chinatown. I met her a couple years ago so this was way after the whole graff addiction phase. She met when I was  hanging out with hot rodders and going to car shows not hip hop and graffiti galleries.

     

    That day made that shit real to me again and it made me start lurkin on the oontz again.

    born and raised in the hood.

     

    Somehow I’ve rubbed shoulders with people who own skyscrapers and I’ve rubbed shoulders with people that were living off welfare. 

     

    I wouldn’t trade living here for anything in the world. Growing up here hasn’t been easy but I’m appreciative of the shit I’m able to experience. 

     

     

    I live an area of the city thats that’s close enough to everything. Downtown is about 45 minutes on a bad day, Wisconsin is an hour away Indiana is about 45 minutes suburbs are a stones throw away.
